It's been a couple of weeks, but how 'bout we wrap this month up with a little Friday fun??? πŸ€΅πŸ‘°β€β™€οΈπŸ’’

First off, how did you do on your last round of Guess the Dress answers?

#6 is Ruth Petree, Banoak Second Grade Teacher
#7 is Abby Hudgens, Banoak ESL Teacher
#8 is Margaret Willis, Banoak Fourth Grade Math & Science Teacher

Now, let's see how you do on these final three:

#9: This Banoak bride said yes to the ring on New Year's Eve in 2011 and yes to the dress and the groom on May 26, 2012. The engagement may have been short, but the marriage is still going strong at 14 years as of this past Tuesday! These to went to high school together but didn’t know each other until after college when a mutual friend set them up. Now their daughter, who also ended up a Banoak Charger, is named after the man who married them. Seems like that yellow and black classic the happy couple is posing next to might have been a hint at the future!
#10: This Kentucky kid has been married to her college sweetheart for a lucky 13 years--since January 19, 2013! Over those 13 years, this family of 2 grew to a family of 5, and we're so glad they left behind the bluegrass and made their way to the Tar Heel state!
#11 was a Carolina bride--South Carolina, that is! She said yes to the first dress she tried on, but only after trying on several more. She probably should have listened when her mom told her it was the one! She said yes to her Tar Heel groom in a Carolina-themed wedding in Cowpens, South Carolina, in 2008. The couple's first dance was to James Taylor's Gone to Carolina, and the wedding cake was Carolina blue--as was part of this dress after the groom smooshed a piece in his new bride's face, and icing went everywhere! Despite a messy start, this Banoak bride and her beau will celebrate 18 years on July 26th!

Think you can Guess the Dress??? Share your guesses in the comment under each photo, and we'll reveal the answers soon!

We needed the rain, but it's supposed to be sunny summertime! Some sun is finally starting to peek back through the clouds, so let's look back on some brighter Banoak days: Field Day and Special Olympics 2026! 🌞😎

✨🦸 Officer Hilton's Helping Heroes 🦸✨

This spring, our Banoak SRO, Officer Adam Hilton, introduced a new student award: the Helping Heroes Award. The Helping Heroes Award is presented to students who consistently go above and beyond the normal, everyday school routine. Officer Hilton created this award to honor students who demonstrate exceptional kindness,
responsibility, and service to others.

These students have been observed regularly helping teachers with various tasks and errands, as well as providing extra support to our special needs students. Their willingness to step up without being asked, their positive attitudes, and their genuine care for others truly set them apart. They have set a wonderful example for their peers and represent the very best of Banoak Elementary. Their actions remind us that leadership is not always about being in the spotlight, but is instead about serving others with compassion, integrity, and heart.

While these students were recognized on our daily news show, we have not had the opportunity to celebrate them publicly due to our recent social media account issues. Please join us now as we congratulate these students on earning this special honor:

For February:
Birdie H.
Ruby H.
Lilly C.
Jersey D.
Tatum D.
Cassadie G.
Avery F.
Chloe H.
Hattie B.

For March:
Grayson B.
Gunner L.
Noah B.

For April & May:
Chloe R.
Trinly T.
Bridget M.
Athena T.
Caroline W.
Mayze D.
Trevor M.
Caroline M.
Felix H.

We look forward to seeing the continued positive impact these Helping Heroes will make on our school and beyond! 🦸✨

βœ¨πŸ’Ž Our Sixth Graders Are Ready to SHINE BRIGHT! πŸ’Žβœ¨

Last week, we celebrated our sixth graders as they prepare to bridge from Banoak to Jacobs Fork, and our hearts are so FULL! πŸ’›πŸ–€πŸ’™πŸ–€

These brilliant students started as kindergarteners with wide eyes and big dreams. Now they're leaving as confident, capable young people ready to take on new challenges. We've watched them grow stronger under pressure, become polished through learning, and develop into the sparkling individuals they are today! πŸ’Žβœ¨

To our sixth graders: You are READY! You have the knowledge, the character, and the resilience to shine brightly in middle school and beyond. Take the lessons you've learned, the friendships you've made, and the confidence you've builtβ€”and let it all fuel your next adventure! 🌟

While we're so proud and excited for your future, we'd be lying if we said goodbye was easy. Whether you became a Charger this year or whether you've been a Charger since Kindergarten, each of you has become a special part of our Banoak family, and we're going to miss your smiles, your energy, and your unique sparkle in our hallways. πŸ’›πŸ–€

Once a Charger, Always a Charger. Go shine bright, Banoak Class of 2026! We can't wait to see all the amazing things you'll accomplish! β˜€οΈπŸŽ‰

Enjoy these photos from our 6th graders' production of Snow White under the direction of Mrs. Meleah Ayotte, some end of the year fun with Officer Hilton and our local law enforcement friends, and our annual 6th Grade Parade! πŸ“Έ

πŸŒžπŸ¦• Summer Reading & Learning with Banoak & Southwest πŸ¦•πŸŒž

Banoak is working with the Southwest Branch of the Catawba County Library System again this year to keep our Chargers reading and learning all summer long! The theme this summer is Unearth a Story. Students can participate three ways:

1. Record their reading on the reading log by coloring in a fossil for each day they read for at least 20 minutes. Turn the completed log in at Southwest or any Catawba County Public Library branch to earn prizes:
200 & 400 = Treasure box!
600 = Visit the library for a Free Book!

2. Attend exciting events at Southwest or any Catawba County Library branch. Mark your calendar for the events at Southwest listed on the back of this flyer and visit the Catawba County Library website at www.catawbacountync.gov/library or follow them on social media for a complete list of events.

3. Earn dino eggs by completing activities on the Summer Reading Challenge form to earn prizes when we return to school in August:
4 eggs = prize
8 eggs = a prize plus $5 Scholastic Bucks

Information, reading logs, and dates for special programs at the Southwest Branch in Mountain View went home with students today! Don't miss the Kick Off Party at the Southwest Branch on Thursday, June 4, at 3pm! πŸ“šπŸ¦–πŸŽ‰πŸ¦•

Looking for more ways you can keep your child(ren) reading this summer and give them a chance to earn more prizes? Check out the 2026 Banoak Summer Reading website for details on how your child(ren) can read and earn prizes from Pizza Hut, Barnes & Noble, Chuck E. Cheese, and more!

βœ¨πŸ’Ž Happy Speech-Language Pathologist Day! πŸ’Žβœ¨

Oops. We messed up. In the final week of school between the testing, the awards, the parties, the packing, the farewells, the hugs, and even the tears, it's easy to forget what day it is, but that's no excuse for failing to recognize this special lady: Denise Heaver, long-time Banoak Speech-Language Pathologist.

We may be a day late and definitely more than a dollar short for National Speech-Language Pathologist Day, but today we celebrate Mrs. Heavner for helping countless Chargers find their voice and shine! For years, she has worked tirelessly to support students in developing communication skills, building confidence, and overcoming challenges. Her patience, expertise, and genuine care for every child have made a lasting impact on our Banoak family.

As she prepares to retire this year, we want to honor the incredible legacy Mrs. Heavner leaves behind. The students whose lives she changed, the families she supported, and the progress she celebratedβ€”these are the precious gems of a remarkable career! πŸ’Žβœ¨

Thank you, Mrs. Heavner, for your years of service, your compassionate heart, and the countless ways you've helped our students sparkle! While we will miss you tremendously, your impact will continue to shine on in every life you've touched! πŸ’›πŸ–€

It's time for some more Friday Fun! πŸŽ‰

So how did you do with our last Guess the Dress challenge? Let's find out...

#4 is Meleah Ayotte, Banoak & Blackburn Drama Teacher
#5 is Whitney Woodward, Banoak 5th Grade Teacher

Now let's see if you guess the Banoak brides in the next three Guess the Dress pictures. Here are your clues:

#6 said yes to the one and only dress she tried on in March of 1998. She then said "I do" on August 8, 1998, at the Chapel at Gardner-Webb University.

#7 is only the same age as her husband one weekend a year. He proposed on that very weekend in 2015, and they were married on that same weekend in 2016 on October 28. They got married at Claxton Farm β€” the venue our mystery bride chose in 4th grade when she went to a cow auction up there. Her daddy bought the tractor in the photo in 1990, the year our beautiful bride was born, and she was gracious enough to share the photo spotlight with some of the herd.

The dress #8 picked for her Newton wedding was a steal at just $400. Need another hint? Her children are ODD without her. That's a math pun, y'all, and if you know this Banoak teacher, that's the only clue you'll need to solve this mystery!

Put your guesses in the comments under each photo and stay tuned for more Guess the Dress fun soon!

✨🐯 Tiger Walk 2026 🐯✨

Banoak recently enjoyed one of our most cherished traditions: the annual Tiger Walk. On Friday, May 5, former Banoak students who will soon be graduating from Foard High School came back to walk our halls once more and give our students and staff an opportunity to celebrate their accomplishments. We are so proud of all of these Chargers, and we can't wait to see what amazing experiences their futures hold!

Graduates, we are honored to have been a part of your education. Now go out there and live your dreams knowing we are always rooting for you. Remember, once a Charger, always a Charger! πŸ–€πŸ’›πŸŽ“
