Timko emphasizes his military service and small business experience as qualifications for public office. He served approximately 12 years on active duty in the U.S. Air Force and retired as a Captain. While many career Air Force officers who remain on active duty are promoted to Major around the 10- to 11-year mark, there is no public evidence explaining why Timko left the service as a Captain. That leaves legitimate questions about his career progression, but it does not establish the reason.
Timko and his wife also owned two restaurants in Cranberry Township—Vocelli Pizza and J. Gumbo's Cajun Restaurants. Both are now closed. Their businesses also received a PPP loan during the COVID-19 pandemic, as did many small businesses. The closures themselves do not prove poor management, but they are part of his business record and are relevant for voters evaluating his claims of executive and financial leadership.
Military service deserves respect, and owning a small business is challenging. At the same time, candidates who campaign on their leadership experience should expect voters to examine the complete record, including career advancement, business outcomes, and how those experiences translate into effective public service.
