The Town Clerk's Office wishes to inform residents of a temporary change to our public office hours.
**Effective Monday, August 17, 2026 and continuing through the end of August 2026 (this timeframe may be extended if needed), the office will close to walk-in members of the public at 3:00 PM each day.**
This adjustment reflects the size of the office's workload relative to its current staffing. The office has operated with only two employees – the Town Clerk and Deputy Town Clerk – for an extended period of time. Mount Pleasant is the second-largest town in Westchester County and home to a major hospital, meaning this office manages a significant volume of vital records, including birth and death certificates, in addition to its other statutory duties. That workload is substantial even at the office's full budgeted staffing of three.
Over the past several years, the office's workload has grown significantly. Annual birth registrations have roughly doubled, from about 1,000 per year to more than 2,000, with the sharpest increases occurring in the last two years – each birth generating additional work in the form of corrections, certified copy requests, and public inquiries. In addition, the Town Clerk's Office has taken on a substantially expanded role in records management in recent years, implementing new processes and technology, and working with other Town departments to modernize recordkeeping town-wide.
We are proud that our office has been able to maintain service to the public with no meaningful disruption throughout this period. We are also pleased to welcome a new team member, a Town resident, to the office at the end of this month. This temporary adjustment in hours will allow us to catch up on outstanding work so we can start fresh, properly onboard and train our new colleague, and continue meeting the level of service residents expect.
Residents with a time-sensitive need should call ahead and we will do our best to accommodate. We appreciate the public's patience and understanding during this period. For questions or urgent matters, please contact the Town Clerk's Office at 914-742-2312 or [email protected].
