Jumpstart Vallejo

Jumpstart Vallejo Let's Jumpstart Vallejo! We are labor. We are business people. We are concerned citizens. And we love Vallejo. We love Vallejo.

We're committed to making Vallejo a better place to live. JumpStart Vallejo is a wide-ranging coalition made up of business people, labor organizations and concerned citizens. But with Vallejo currently lagging behind the rest of the Bay Area and Solano County,
we believe the current City Council has not exercised the political leadership needed to tackle our city’s problems.

Open Letter to the Vallejo City Council:
Jumpstart, a coalition of supportive residents, local business owners, labor organizations and community leaders, would like to thank Vallejo City Councilmembers who chose to embrace facts over fears by directing staff to correct and complete the Draft Final Environmental Impact Report (Draft FEIR) for the Orcem/Vallejo Marine Terminal (VMT) proposal, and return a corrected and certified FEIR to decision-making bodies for further consideration and potential certification and approval.

We are excited that the Council has chosen to complete a process that has been nearly five years in the making, and hope this is just the first positive step towards bringing these job- creating projects to fruition.

We have been persistent in our desire to have a complete and accurate FEIR presented to decision-makers and the public in an effort to both better understand the Orcem/VMT proposal, and allow a final decision on a Major Use Permit to be made based on facts and evidence from environmental experts, as detailed in the FEIR. We look forward to reviewing this critically-important document once all errors and inconsistencies have been corrected and updated, and hope it provides clarity for those who’ve learned about the project through half-truths, rumors or scare tactics.

Again, we’d like to thank our City Councilmembers for taking this important and courageous step forward in what has been a years-long journey for the applicants and those watching eagerly in the hopes of bringing green industry to Vallejo. We strongly believe this decision not only provides certainty in process for the applicants of the Orcem/VMT proposal, but all job- creating enterprises who seek to do business and invest in a brighter future for our community. We look forward to a transparent process that will allow the public to be educated about the project along with the council.

"People need to understand that this is a public forum where people can sign up to speak and express their opinion without hecklers in the audience shouting, waving signs around and disrupting the speaker."

Dear Vallejo City Council members:This letter is to ask you to please consider taking control of your council meetings. The last meeting regarding the Orcem project was a fiasco. Anybody attending a council meeting in support of or opposed to a

"I was encouraged when I read that Jumpstart Vallejo was taking on the issue and they had demanded from the council and staff that a code of conduct be established so that everyone can feel safe if they decide to come to the council meetings. Code of conduct was even moved to a Tier One priority at goal setting when a majority of the council members agreed that it was a problem."

Orderly process in the council chambers is the first step to moving Vallejo forward.

Just when we thought it might be safe to return to the Vallejo City Council chambers ...I have written before complaining that people in Vallejo do not feel safe coming to city council meetings because of the conduct which has been allowed to g

Respectful behavior and following proper procedures through the political process has always been our top priority. To intimidate and shout obscenities during and after a public forum will surely only drive away potential would-be investors.

"The nasty verbal abuse at meetings is bad enough, but now they’ve escalated to the next level in the fascist agenda. You laugh? You won’t laugh when a stranger “makes contact” with your family. You’ll damn well know what the implications are. What you won’t know is how far he is willing to go to bend you to his will."

Charles Kite wrote to the Times-Herald: “How disappointing to see that the Orcem project was not settled and that four of the council members want to drag it on and on. It makes people wonder if they elected the right people to represent them.&

Regardless of your political stance or opinion, crude behavior towards our elected officials is uncalled for.

Several council members were followed into the parking lot while being subjected to disgusting language and taunting.

Respectful and orderly behavior in our council chambers is our top priority. We have been calling for this since long before the Vallejo goal setting session.

Only by asking the City Council to direct staff to fix and certify the EIR can they have those facts, ensuring they are making the right decision for all of the citizens, not just a vocal few.

The Planning Commission will meet this evening at 6pm to discuss the VMT/Orcem project and the pending Draft Environmental Impact Report.

JumpStart representatives have met extensively with Orcem in order to express concerns regarding environmental impacts and quality job creation.

We're proud to say Orcem has answered every concern and has shown that they will be dedicated partners to their Vallejo neighbors through community projects, infrastructure improvements, and union job creation.

We look forward to the open forum tonight as a way for Orcem to further express its willingness to help move Vallejo forward.

The Napa Solano Central Labor Council voted unanimously to support the Orcem project at our delegates meeting. We have been meeting with the Orcem/VMT company since they first came to Vallejo three years ago and they have requested to attend our meeti
