The Valley Center Senior Association invites you to join us on Friday, August 21st, from 10:00 am to Noon at the Valley Center Community Building for a Veteran Assistance Expo.

Representatives from the Kansas Office of Veterans Services will assist with all state and federal benefits. Veterans, family members, and caregivers can visit resource tables from various medical departments, including Caregiver Respite Support, Su***de Prevention, and Eligibility and Enrollment. Also available are the Sedgwick County Register of Deeds for VA ID cards, WSU Tech, and the Veterans Benefits Office, which processes claims.

Public Works will be cleaning sewer lines south of West 5th, North of West 3rd, between Sheridan and Birch this week. This includes the west side of Birch Ave from 3rd to 5th, all of West 3rd from Birch to Sheridan, 400 & 500 block of West 4th, Albert St., Davis Rd., Meeds Dr., Hickory Ln., Elm Ave, East side of Sheridan from 3rd to 5th and the south side of West 5th from Sheridan to Birch.
Please note:
• Water and drains may be used as normal.
• You most likely will not even notice that work is being performed.
• On very rare occasions your building/home may be affected as follows:
Sewer lines can develop air pressure or partial vacuum from the cleaning process. Usually, any excess air pressure or vacuum will dissipate through your plumbing vents, but occasionally there are homes with inadequate plumbing vents (no vents, undersized vents, or obstructed vents.) In the case of inadequate venting air pressure could escape through your toilets, floor, sink, bathtub, or shower drains causing water to splash out or, a vacuum could draw the water out of your fixture traps causing an unpleasant odor. To guard against this possibility, please:
• Cover all floor drains with plastic and place weight on the plastic.
• Cover all toilets with plastic and close lid on the plastic.
• If you should experience an unpleasant odor, run water into each drain to re-fill the traps.
These precautions are only necessary within the dates that your area is scheduled for maintenance.

Please note new speed limits on the east side of Valley Center.

🚦 Speed Limit Changes Now in Effect in Valley Center 🚦

The City of Valley Center would like to inform motorists that several speed limit changes have recently gone into effect. New speed limit signs have been installed, and we encourage everyone to take a few moments to familiarize themselves with these updates. There will be a couple additional signs placed once locates have been completed.

New Speed Limits:

📍 Seneca Street

From Ford Street to 5th Street – 30 MPH

📍 East 5th Street

From the 700 block of East 5th Street to the 2400 block of East 5th Street – 30 MPH
From the 2400 block of East 5th Street to Broadway – 40 MPH

📍 East Ford Street

From the 600 block of East Ford Street to the 1700 block of East Ford Street – 30 MPH
From the 1700 block of East Ford Street to Broadway – 40 MPH

These changes were made to improve traffic safety and better reflect the development and traffic patterns in these areas.

Please watch for the new signs, adjust your speed accordingly, and help us keep our streets safe for everyone.
