July may be over, but Disability Pride doesn't end with Disability Pride Month. 🧔

Last month, individuals from The Arc Rockland came together to create this video and share what Disability Pride means to them.

Their message is worth carrying with us all year long: celebrating identity, amplifying voices, advocating for inclusion, and recognizing the contributions of people with disabilities in our communities.

We're proud to share their voices—and even prouder of the individuals who brought this video to life.

Disability Pride is every day.

Did you know? The disability community is the largest minority group in the United States—and the only one that anyone can become a part of at any point in life. More than 1 in 4 U.S. adults lives with a disability.

Participants from our Day Programs came together to recognize Disability Pride Month by watching the award-winning documentary Body & Soul: Diana & Kathy, which tells the story of two pioneering self-advocates whose courage and determination helped advance disability rights and inspire generations of advocates.

Their story reminds us that inclusion doesn't happen by accident. It happens because people raise their voices, challenge barriers, and advocate for change.

This Disability Pride Month, we celebrate the strength, achievements, and contributions of people with disabilities while reaffirming our commitment to building communities where everyone belongs.

Today, The Arc Rockland proudly joined providers, advocates, and organizations from across New York State at a rally highlighting the critical role that Temporary Protected Status (TPS) holders play in our healthcare and human services workforce.

Representing The Arc Rockland were CEO Jessica Pizzutello, Board President Alexandra Leys, members of our staff, and Self-Advocacy President Katy Sanchez, standing together in support of the dedicated professionals who provide essential services to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and communities across our state.

The potential loss of Temporary Protected Status for thousands of healthcare and human services professionals would have far-reaching impacts—not only on our workforce, but on the individuals and families who rely on these vital supports every day.

At The Arc Rockland, we remain committed to advocating for policies that strengthen our workforce, protect essential services, and ensure individuals with disabilities continue to receive the high-quality supports they deserve.
