Rensselaer County Sheriff's Office Arrests Level 2 Registered S*x Offender for Alleged S*x Offender Registry Violation
The Rensselaer County Sheriff's Office announces the arrest of a Level 2 registered s*x offender following an investigation into an alleged violation of the New York State S*x Offender Registration Act (SORA).
On July 31, 2026 members of the Rensselaer County Sheriff's Office Criminal Investigations Unit arrested John E. Cruickshank, 46 of Schaghticoke N.Y., charging Cruickshank with failing to appear to provide updated photo in violation of the New York State Corrections Law 168-F 2-b3 (E Felony).
The investigation determined that Cruickshank failed to provide an updated photograph within the required statutory time frame.
Following the arrest, Cruickshank was processed at the Rensselaer County Sheriff's Office and was released on an appearance ticket, to appear back in court at a later date.
Sheriff Kyle Bourgault stated: "The S*x Offender Registration Act is an important public safety tool designed to help ensure that registered offenders remain in compliance with the law. The Rensselaer County Sheriff's Office remains committed to investigating violations of the registry requirements and holding offenders accountable when they fail to comply with those obligations.”
