🚒 A New Chapter for Calaveras Consolidated Fire Protection District 🚒

Today, we proudly celebrate the swearing-in of our new Fire Chief, Ryan Hamre, as Chief of the Calaveras Consolidated Fire Protection District.

Chief Hamre has served the Calaveras Consolidated Fire Protection District for 15 years, including serving as our Fire Marshal and as a member of the Board of Directors. His dedication to our District and our community has been demonstrated through years of service, leadership, and commitment.

Prior to joining Calaveras Consolidated, Chief Hamre served with the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District and the Amador Fire Protection District, bringing a broad range of experience and knowledge to his new role as Fire Chief.

We are excited to welcome Chief Hamre into this new chapter of leadership and look forward to the continued professionalism, experience, and dedication he will bring to our firefighters and the communities we proudly serve.

Please join us in congratulating Fire Chief Ryan Hamre and wishing him great success as he begins this next chapter of service.

Firefighters are on scene for a vehicle fire that has spread into the vegetation on Heineman Drive and Highway 26 in Valley Springs.

The vehicle fire has been extinguished, and the forward progress of the vegetation fire has been stopped at approximately 1 acre.

Helmet Cam View: Firefighters Battling Yesterday’s small flare-up on Division Charlie - Loma Fire in Mountain Ranch.

Calaveras Consolidated Firefighters want to remind everyone in our communities that the grass remains incredibly dry, and we continue to respond to several fire starts following the large Gann Fire just a couple of weeks ago.

This video, captured from a firefighter’s helmet camera on Engine 132 during yesterday’s incident, shows crews actively fighting a flare-up and working to stop the spread of the fire.

The hand crew was especially appreciative of the engine company’s efforts and support - teamwork!

We are asking everyone to remain vigilant. It only takes a single spark to start a vegetation fire under current conditions. Please use caution with equipment, vehicles, outdoor activities, and anything that could create heat or sparks.

We are not out of the woods yet. Stay aware, stay safe, and help us prevent the next wildfire.

Firefighters responded this afternoon to a head-on collision/vehicle accident on Jenny Lind Rd and Kirby St.

One patient was transported by Air Ambulance to a Trauma Center in the Valley.

The cause of the accident is under investigation by the CHP.

Firefighters responded to a vegetation fire this morning on Baldwin Street between Treosti and Usher Drive in the Rancho Calaveras Subdivision of Valley Springs.

The fire was reported at 3:11 am. Forward progress was stopped, and it was contained to a quarter acre.

There were multiple homes in the area at the time of the fire—no damage to any of the structures.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by Calfire.

Calaveras Consolidated Firefighters responded yesterday afternoon to a fire that involved a boat/trailer and SUV on Baldwin Street in the Rancho Calaveras subdivision in Valley Springs.

The fire extended into the vegetation, and forward progress was stopped approximately 1/4 acre

Engine 133 and Water Tender 143 stopped forward progress before the threatened structures became involved.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

7 DAYS ON THE FRONT LINES

This evening, our firefighters were finally released from the Fire after 7 days on the front lines, beginning with the initial attack near Hogan Dam Road and Gann Road.

What started near Hogan Lake and Valley Springs quickly became a raging inferno, climbing over Bear Mountain and ultimately consuming more than 10,000 acres.

Our hearts remain with the families and homeowners who lost their homes, and especially with the family who lost a loved one. One life was tragically lost in this fire.

Throughout those 7 days, firefighters from multiple agencies across California worked tirelessly in extreme conditions to protect lives, homes, and communities. From local crews to CALFIRE, to strike teams and overhead from across the state, this was a unified effort of the entire fire service standing together when it mattered most.

We are incredibly grateful to the residents and businesses of Valley Springs and the surrounding communities who reached out to firefighters with food, water, Gatorade, supplies, and words of encouragement. Your generosity meant more than you know.

Firefighters from our Fire Stations, CAL FIRE, Fire Districts from Calaveras County and departments from across the state converged on our community to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with one another and help battle this devastating fire. That is the fire service at its best—brothers and sisters from every corner of California coming together when communities need them most.

To every firefighter, dispatcher, law enforcement officer, emergency responder, agency, business, volunteer, and community member who played a part:

This fire tested all of us, but it also showed the strength, courage, and compassion of our community and the fire service as a whole.
