Our Ray Roberts Lake State Park Johnson Branch Ranger Ducks are now available for purchase for $2.50 +tax inside our Headquarters park store.

Reminder, if you are a Texas State Parks Passholder, you do get a discount.

We had a such a great time creating our Mood Boards and listening to Ranger Bryan talk about our native animals at the Nature Center today.
It's not too late to come to the park for Labor Day weekend. We have plenty of Primitive Camping available and we are extending our "Fun in the Sun" Scavenger Hunt until Monday.

Just a reminder that we will be having our Full Moon Hike this evening at 8:30 PM. We will be meeting at the Ray Roberts Lake State Park Johnson Branch - Texas Parks and Wildlife Nature Center!

Our Headquarters will be closed so please make sure to give yourselves some time to stop at the Cash Only Self-Pay Station or make a Day Pass Reservations prior to attending.

Stop by the Nature Center to see, touch or read about other natural and cultural resources we have at the park. Arts and crafts are available or stop by for a quick cool down.

Hours of Operations:
Friday 1 PM to 5 PM
Saturday 7:45 AM to 4:45 PM
Sunday 9 AM to 1 PM
Monday 12:45 PM to 4:45 PM

Nature Center is run by wonderful Texas Parks and Wildlife Volunteers and Texas Master Naturalist so hours may vary.

Hitting the trails with your furry friends? Let's talk heat safety!🥵

Texas summers can turn a casual hike into a serious challenge, especially for our furry trail buddies. Before you head out, keep these lifesaving tips in mind:

Hike During Cooler Hours: Early mornings and late evenings are safest for paws and health.

Pack Plenty of Water: Bring extra for both you and your dog. Offer it often. Ask a ranger if there is water access on the trails, just in case.

Protect Those Paws: Hot ground = burned pads. If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for them.

Watch for Overheating Signs: Heavy panting, drooling, bright red gums, slowing down, wobbling. Stop and cool down immediately.

Rest Frequently in Shade: Heat exhaustion develops fast! Breaks help keep dogs safe.

Keep the Pace Easy: Dogs overheat quicker than humans, even on short, shaded trails.

Know Your Dog’s Limits: Older dogs and flat‑faced breeds struggle more in high temps.

Carry Cooling Essentials: Collapsible bowl, wet towel, cooling bandana.

Choose Shaded Trails: Avoid exposed routes and midday sun.

A SAFE hike is a HAPPY hike and your dog is counting on YOU to make the right calls. Stay cool, stay prepared, and enjoy those beautiful Texas trails together! 🐾🌅🥾

Hey everyone! Ranger Celia here! Sometimes it's necessary for us humans to embrace our whimsical side and what better way to do so than water coloring.
Water coloring in a state park is a peaceful way to enjoy nature. It doesn't have to be perfect nor do you need to have the most expensive tools.

Join us Saturday, July 25th at the Nature Center to learn from Fine Artist and Texas Master Naturalist, Lin Hampton. This event will be held from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Come while supplies last.

Be the friendly face who greets visitors upon arrival.
Assist with day-to-day operations like daily permits, camping reservations, and revenue collection.
Answer phones, provide park information, and help keep headquarters run smoothly.
Be part of a team that helps carry out the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department mission.

Experience is welcomed but not required; a positive attitude, reliability, and a genuine appreciation for the outdoors go a long way here. Volunteer hours count as well.
