Big shout out is in order for these boys! The last thing we want to do after working our tails off since 5am is pick up hundreds of chairs and dozens of tables. The DC West Middle School football team showed up big time to help us knock it out. What a great group of guys! You make us proud to serve this amazing community!

This morning we will be conducting a drill with University of Nebraska Medical Center - UNMC Emergency Medicine focusing on prehospital mass casualty care. We will have a simulated scene in the area of W Maple Road and Manderson St. Please expect an increased presence of emergency vehicles. No road closures or any other traffic restrictions are in place.

🔥 Training, Training, Training 🔥
Firefighter Allen hit the road last week to attend the Western Nebraska Engine Academy. This hands-on training gave him the opportunity to sharpen his skills in wildland operations, incident command systems, and managing large-scale responses.

While these scenarios aren’t something we encounter every day in eastern Nebraska, the skills learned easily translate into our daily operations. We’re fortunate to have dedicated members who volunteer their time to attend specialized training events and then bring that knowledge back to share with the whole department.

We’re excited to share that the Children’s Nebraska Injury Prevention Team will joining the fun at our Annual Pancake Feed Fundraiser. They’ll be fitting and distributing a limited supply of bike helmets during the event.

Come early to make sure your child gets fitted for a helmet, enjoy a delicious breakfast, and check out all the special activities!

Today, on September 11th, we pause to remember the lives lost and the countless families forever changed on this day in 2001. We especially honor the bravery of firefighters, police officers, paramedics, and ordinary citizens who put others before themselves. Today is a reminder to protect, to care, to stand together and to remember.

🚒 Training Wednesdays! 🚑

Last night VFD hosted our friends and mutual aid partners from Waterloo Volunteer Fire Department for a class on all things carbon monoxide emergencies. With cold weather quickly approaching, we normally see an uptick in these call types. Training included classroom instruction from both an operations, and an EMS standpoint. Our Physician Medical Director from UNMC was in the house to provide some expert insight on caring for these types of patients. Finally we wrapped it up with a hands on scenario.

Western Douglas County is in very good hands with this amazing group of dedicated volunteers! Both communities are very fortunate to have these crews responding to their emergencies.
