Fire season has been rough this year. We are saddened to hear of loss of life, land, animals, homes and livelihood. Our thoughts are with all those impacted in every fire, in every state, especially if it occurred due to arson.

National Night Out was fantastic as always! We love interacting with the community and answering questions. We also get to continue building working relationships with other emergency agencies, and we were happy to assist the Humboldt County Nevada Emergency Management office this year with dire extinguisher education and giveaway!

Come on out to National Night Out! Golconda Fire Protection District will be there to meet and greet, hand out swag, and give away a giant teddy bear!

Join us tonight for National Night Out 2026! Starting at 6:00p.m. at the Ralph Whitworth Recreation Center for a night of fun with public safety agencies from Humboldt County. There will be hamburgers, hot dogs, and treats, as well as activities to enjoy! We look forward to seeing you there!

August is National Emergency Management Awareness Month, a time to recognize the professionals who work year-round to help people, businesses, and institutions prepare for and recover from disasters.

Emergency management is more than disaster response. It includes mitigation, preparedness, coordination, response, and recovery. Nevada law requires every county to maintain a local emergency management organization, helping ensure communities have coordinated plans, trained leadership, and established systems in place before an emergency occurs. NRS 414.090.

Humboldt County benefits from having a dedicated emergency management program led by our Emergency Manager, Carol Lynn, CEM. Carol works with public safety agencies, healthcare organizations, government partners, businesses, nonprofits, and community members to strengthen preparedness, coordinate resources, and support recovery efforts.

This planning and coordination are valuable investments in the safety and resilience of our community. Join us in recognizing Carol and the many partners who work behind the scenes to help keep Humboldt County prepared.

Item found in the road on the Valmy on ramp to I-80 west today, Sunday 8/2/26 at noon. This was inside the item. If you lost anything in this area, contact GFPD District Chief Harrell at 775-934-4517 to describe the item and claim it.

On Friday, July 31st, at 4:39 pm, GFPD responded to the Del Vada fire in Golconda, NV. Mop up and recon was carried out. The scene was called controlled and contained at 6:27 pm.
5.420 acres were burned.
No incidents or injuries.
We want to acknowledge the property owner for their quick containment line around the fire.
We also want to thank Winnemucca Rural Fire District and U.S. Wildland Fire Service in Winnemucca for their mutual aid.
