Twenty-two years ago, and we still remember. Civil Air Patrol was the only asset available to accept the mission of documenting ground zero damage from the air so authorities could analyze initial damages. A lone aircraft containing three members flew in a still sky over the location that just hours before contained the Twin Towers. We cannot escape the tragedies that happen to our communities, state and nation but we can be postured to respond and provide assistance that brings clarity and comfort. Civil Air Patrol responds across the nation to post disaster missions. 9.11.01 is one that will always be deeply imprinted into our minds and on our hearts.

Several of our Cadets spent part of their afternoon yesterday at the Valparaiso Kiwanis Club meeting. They assisted with a presentation to the Kiwanis on the Civil Air Patrol.

They did such a great job sharing what the Cadet Program means to them, what they enjoy most about the program, and how it has helped direct their future career paths. The Cadets also benefited from meeting all the Kiwanis and seeing how they live out a similar mission to make our communtiy a better place.

A big thank you to the Valparaiso Kiwanis for inviting us to share about the Civil Air Patrol and providing us lunch. Great job today C/1st Lt. Cook, C/2d Lt. Bubalo, and C/SSgt Green.

Today we recognize Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day, an official federal holiday commemorating the emancipation of enslaved people in the United States. It wasn’t until the Union army arrived in Galveston, Texas, 2½ years after the Emancipation Proclamation, that all slaves were free on June 19, 1865.

First displayed in 1997, the Juneteenth flag symbolizes the Juneteenth holiday. The colors are of the American flag since people freed in Texas were American citizens. The arc signifies a new horizon of opportunity. The five-point star is for Texas. The outline of the nova represents the spread of freedom and a new beginning for all.

Congratulations to the Valparaiso Composite Squadron for advancing to Nationals! They will be representing the Great Lakes Region along with Maj Kevin A Adams Memorial Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol in Michigan.
We are so incredibly proud of our team! Many had just came from a long weekend of staff training for encampment to start recording videos for each event. We traveled to our local National Guard Armory first to get the outdoor presentation done. Thanks for allowimg us to use your flagpole. SGT Jongsma Indiana National Guard Recruiter Even while many were exhausted, they pushed through to get it done. That's the true definition of teamwork. Thank you to C/Lt Col Brayden Schrock as team captain along with C/Capt Tyson Borgelt, C/1st Lt Anna Carpenter, C/2nd Lt Caleb Johnson, C/CMSgt Brandon Bubalo, and C/CMSgt Damon Virgo.
Captain Howard had to learn new skills on how to record, splice together videos, and upload to YouTube.
All in all we have a fantastic team and can't wait for our 2nd chance at nationals
Today we are at the Henry Ford Museum to see ingenuity, resourcefulness and innovation that helped shape America. Later we will see the movie Apollo 11. This documentary shows the final moments of preparation, liftoff, landing, and return of this mission. It includes never-before-seen 70 mm footage and audio recordings.
We are on a field trip to Greenfield Village in Michigan. We have been able to step foot in the lab where Thomas Edison had his lightbulb moment and the workshop where the Wright brothers taught us to reach for the sky. We toured 80 acres and even ran into Adrian Composite Squadron, Civil Air Patrol. It's always good to see fellow cadets. Tomorrow we get to visit Henry Ford museum.
Today was a great turn out, 13 cadets and 6 senior members during a windy, but beautiful day. Our ES team consisting of Lt Clark, Lt McNamara, and C/CMSgt Bansemer planned several hands on scenarios to give us training on using a compass, finding missing persons, line and hasty searches, and plenty of opportunities to communicate with each other using radios in the field and with ground base.
We had lots of tasks signed off and ended up completing Three GTM 3's, One GTL, and 2 GTL trainees.
Field training exercises have started. We are concentrating on training our members on basic emergency services tasks along with our Ground team leader trainees leading the way. We are hoping for lots of sign offs.
Proud of our unit for participating both weekends and assisting the wing in this accomplishment.
80 Years Ago Today......God Bless the Doolittle Raiders and their families.
