Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is a Congressionally chartered, federally supported, non-profit corporation that serves as the official civilian auxiliary of the United States Air Force (USAF). CAP is a volunteer organization with an aviation-minded membership that includes people from all backgrounds, lifestyles, and occupations. We perform three congressionally assigned key missions: emergency services, which includes search and rescue (by air and ground) and disaster relief operations; aerospace education for youth and the general public; and cadet programs for teenage youth. In addition, CAP has recently been tasked with homeland security and courier service missions. CAP also performs non-auxiliary missions for various governmental and private agencies, such as local law enforcement and the American Red Cross. The program is established as an organization by Title 10 of the United States Code and its purposes defined by Title 36. While CAP is sponsored by the USAF, it is not an operating reserve component under the Air Force or the federal government. Since CAP is not a reserve component of a uniformed service of the military and its membership is made up of volunteer civilians, CAP members are not subject to the laws governed by the Uniform Code of Military Justice. Membership in the organization consists of cadets ranging from 12 to 21 years of age, and senior members 18 years of age and up. These two groups each have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of pursuits; the Cadet program contributes to the development of the former group with a structured syllabus and an organization based upon United States Air Force ranks and pay grades, while the older members serve as instructors, supervisors, and operators. All members wear uniforms while performing their duties. Nationwide, CAP is a major operator of single-engine general aviation aircraft, used in the ex*****on of its various missions, including orientation flights for cadets and the provision of significant emergency services capabilities. Because of these extensive flying opportunities, many CAP members become licensed pilots. The hierarchical and military auxiliary organization is headed by the National Headquarters (with authority over the national organization) followed by eight regional commands and 52 wings (each of the 50 states plus Washington, D.C. and Puerto Rico). Each wing supervises the individual groups and squadrons that comprise the basic operational unit of the organization. Description

This past meeting was character development on perseverance. Each flight of cadets were given a bag of random items and had to make something that embodied the idea of perseverance. The results were interesting!

We also had C/Major Kori Howard come to do her Eaker speech along with a presentation of her experience and what to expect in AFROTC and in the major of Aeronautical Engineering Technology.

Our cadets had a long day, but successfully completed Cadet Airman School.

Our officers and SNCOs did a great job at teaching our newest cadets about core values, chain of command, followership, leadership, they did some team leadership problems, NCSAs, other opportunities in CAP, etc. Cadets got the chance to take their leadership test and will take their aerospace education test later to promote on Tuesday.

9 cadets graduated and 2 of them were able to get promoted.

Good job to all of our cadets that participated!!

This week, cadet C/Lt. Col. Andrew Schrock from the Valparaiso Composite Squadron CAP, flew with a member from the La Porte County Squadron, Civil Air Patrol to Smith Field Airport in Fort Wayne to obtain his "Form 5" in a Cessna 172 Skyhawk. The Form 5 process is a Civil Air Patrol checkride ensuring CAP members can fly the airplane to FAA standards (and then some). Of course, he passed. The checkride examiner added, "he's a good pilot!"

Schrock said, "the opportunity to fly with CAP and learn from different people within the organization is an amazing benefit that I hope to use to the fullest extent."

Congratulations, cadet C/Lt. Col. Andrew Schrock! Well done! #GoFlyCAP

We were notified that we won Indiana Wing's Ground Team of the year!

There's hard work that goes into planning and training for emergency services. This award goes out to our dedicated seniors and cadets that give up days off to train for long hours in any weather and continue to strive to make us the best.
