Police Continue to Investigate Report of Gunshot Victims—Update

The Valparaiso Police continue to investigate the locating of two gunshot victims from the early evening hours of December 8, 2020 in the 150 block of Mayfield Ave. As the investigation remains open, and actively on-going, police have learned the male subject succumbed to the injuries he sustained as the result of a gunshot wound to the head. The male, 38, had been transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital for additional treatment prior to his passing. The female, 22, that was located on scene has also been transported to South Bend Memorial Hospital for treatment. She is currently considered critical/serious, but stable.

We believe this incident to be an isolated event and a domestic situation involving the persons located on scene when police arrived. There is no threat to public safety stemming from this investigation. Additional information may be released if/when it becomes available.

Thank you to our community who has expressed concerns over this information and for your continued support of the Valparaiso Police Department. Our thoughts are with the families that have been impacted by these events.

Addiction Recovery

Sh*t happens, people are going to let you down. Things aren’t always going to go the way you thought. You won’t always get the things you feel you deserve. Not everyone will appreciate your drive and dedication to do the things most people overlook. Not everyone will understand why you do what you do .... most will never understand your "why." That’s why at the end of the day... it’s just you looking in the mirror. Did you give it your all? Well sh*t ... only you can answer that question ... so ... did you? Average isn’t good enough! Never settle for mediocrity ... YOU ARE HERE FOR GREATNESS!!!! #motivation #bethehero

Awesome stuff. Valparaiso is a recovery Mecca!

Current and former residents of Respite House, along with the support of the Valparaiso community, took an important step today in the construction of their new location on Union Street. Together, the group of people raised the building's walls, a symbolic moment of strength, solidarity, and determination.

Around 2 dozen men came to Manualy hoist and hold the new wall in the position while carpenters set it!!!!! Amazing to sight to witness in person. The new structure will hold around the same amount men struggling from addiction.
