It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of one of our own, Darrin S. Biggs,54, from Valparaiso. Darrin was born on April 4, 1969, in Wiesbaden, Germany, to Terry and Sandra (Beschinski) Biggs. He graduated from El Dorado High School in Las Vegas and went on to fulfill his life-long passion at the Porter County Animal Shelter.
Darrin's love for animals was well-known and started from a young age, as he transformed his own bedroom closet into a nursery for stray pets. Darrin also enjoyed fishing trips and target shooting sessions with his uncle Dan, "Unc" and friends at Long Lake.
Darrin is survived by his mother, Sandra Biggs, along with his loving aunts, uncles, cousins, and numerous friends.
We invite you to join us for a visitation on Friday, November 10th, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Moeller Funeral Home in Valparaiso. A memorial service will follow at 5:30 p.m., where we will honor Darrin's life and the impact he made on the lives of both animals and people.
We kindly request that you consider making a memorial donation to the Porter County Animal Shelter, a cause that held a special place in Darrin's heart.
Thank you.

John Pisowicz achievement of earning his Professional Emergency Manager Certificate is truly commendable. This certification is a significant milestone in his career as the Emergency Preparedness Director and demonstrates his commitment to maintaining professional standards in emergency management.
The PEM program in Indiana is designed to recognize individuals who have demonstrated competencies in the field of emergency management. It typically takes five years to meet the requirements for this certification, but John was able to do so in just four years, showcasing his dedication and competence in this field.
In order to qualify for the certificate, John needed to complete a number of professional contributions. While he was only required to complete six of the nineteen contributions, he went above and beyond by completing eight of them. This level of commitment and overachievement speaks volumes about John's work ethic and determination to excel in his role.
Furthermore, it is inspiring to see that John pursued this certification on his own accord, without any obligation to do so. Between working his full-time job as a flight nurse, family obligations and him pursuing more education, it took John 10 years of hard work to receive this accomplishment. This demonstrates his proactive approach to his position as Emergency Preparedness Director and we thank you, John!
