Family House is taking time to remember the lives lost and the families that were forever changed due to the September 11th attacks in 2001. For the 20th anniversary, may we all take a moment of silence and reflection to honor those lost and the heroes that emerged during this unthinkable act of terrorism. Family House remembers. #PatriotDay

Every organization has individuals who make unique and lasting contributions. Mrs. Gerri Landgrebe is one of those people as far as Family House is concerned. For several years Gerri served as a loyal and devoted Board member. Then one day, when the need arose she took a job at the agency. All the way up until her retirement she served with professionalism, compassion, great warmth and intelligence. We greatly value Mrs. Landgrebe’s contributions and are proud to recognize her as a Family House “40 for 40 hero!

Thank you Gerri Landgrebe! #40for40

As an elementary student, Natalie Karas volunteered at the Family House, cleaning up and scraping paint off the porch at the rental home we once occupied prior to purchasing 610 Glendale. Fast forward nearly three decades, and Natalie along with her husband Robbie Gross remain steadfast supporters of the agency. Even though they live far away (in our Nation’s Capital) they have continued to generously contribute to us and the kids we serve. We greatly appreciate the assistance they have rendered throughout the years. They truly embody the spirit of the Family House “40 for 40” Heroes we are proudly honoring this year!

The young man in the photograph (alongside of his dad) is named Spencer Dumas. For his Eagle Scout project, Spencer raised money, designed and built a beautiful backyard play cabin for young visitors at our agency to enjoy. His initiative in contacting us and carrying the project through to completion was highly impressive. We greatly value Spencer and the labor of love he pulled off for the kids. We are proud of this Eagle Scout and extremely happy to honor him as one of our Family 40 for 40 heroes.

Family House's mission is to nurture children through family interactions in a safe, home-like environment.

As we continue to celebrate our 40th anniversary, we would like to thank the individuals, groups, and organizations that have helped our "house" over the years. Our location on Glendale Blvd is where our office operates and houses our supervised parenting time, custody exchanges, and therapeutic parenting time. From financial assistance to yard work to disinfecting toys, Family House appreciates the care that is put into our location to continue to offer the home-like experience for our families

The Porter County Substance Abuse Council has had a strong relationship with the Family House since the 1990’s. Their organization has been a source of financial aid to our agency on multiple occasions and they have worked to help us improve our home as well by supplying new doors and other construction upgrades. The important work they already do in our community is highly valued. The assistance they have rendered to us through the years makes them one of our highly valued “40 for 40” Family House Heroes during our 40th year of operation.

Joe Claesgens has lived in the Valparaiso community for many years. Joe was a long time board member and he has helped out in every conceivable fashion (everything from cutting the grass to serving as Board President). Mr. Claesgens was instrumental in helping Family House pay off our mortgage in an expedited fashion and he has also recruited the most board members in the history of the entire agency. You can read about Joe in the Family House publication, Joe’s Character Alphabet. We are proud to recognize this wonderful individual as a 40 for 40 Family House Hero.

Eldon Versteeg has spent countless hours inside the Family House repairing the porch, installing screens, fixing things which were broken, installing items which were needed, and generally being the kind of handyman money just can’t buy! He also heads up the local "toymakers" who donate wooden toys of all sorts to our children! Family House appreciates Eldon and we celebrate him as one of our “40 for 40” heroes during our 40th year of operation!

Prior to 1981, holding supervised family visitations in Northwest Indiana was both a challenging and frustrating endeavor. Judge Raymond Kickbush of Valparaiso (along with other community leaders) had the idea of creating an agency which could take on that responsibility. So 40 years ago this year, Family House was founded. Because of Judge Kickbush’s vision and leadership, thousands of children have been able to have safe, private, and supervised visits and transfers with their non-custodial parents in our agency. We proudly honor Judge Kickbush for his great idea and his implementation of that idea as well. We are so happy to name him as a Family House “40 for 40” Hero!

Thank you Valparaiso Sunrise Kiwanis For your generous support for our Family House families and kids !
I had the chance to see the Speciality Creations team in action at the 2017 Popcorn Festival. All I can say is "5 Stars across the entire board." The food they had on hand was the freshest and most delicious, the Chef Christian was a creative, energetic, and incredibly talented person, and the holiday vibe they created with the beautiful food sculptures and displays had the crowd totally entranced. On top of all that, their heart is in the right place as well, as they donated to the Family House too! Wonderful work! Wonderful team! I could not be more impressed! BRAVO! Please Share so that people can learn about this extraordinary enterprise! Thanks!
