She has gone through her first week of "boot camp" and has been learning the fine arts of recording at a very impressive pace!
Welcome to our team Sara!
I wanted to give a big shout out to these two wonderful ladies that are the real hero’s of Porter County Government Center. Mary Starkey and Ava May have been relentlessly cleaning and disinfecting the entire building to make sure all the workers stay healthy. We all appreciate you two!

Although we are closed to walk-ins, we are still here doing our work. To all the employees, thank you for bringing your best to work day after day. I sincerely appreciate all your hard work and dedication. Words just can't describe how much you are appreciated. You are irreplaceable to this office and you are our biggest strength. We recently celebrated a birthday in our office....
Happy Birthday to Jen, and wow, what a great birthday cake and cinnamon rolls we had for the celebration!
Vote absentee or by mail, Porter County election officials urge
Election officials are encouraging voters to request absentee ballots and vote by mail instead of going to early voting sites as the novel coronavirus pandemic affects everyday life.
Although we will not be allowed to have walk in traffic (after 12:00 PM), we will still be open for business tomorrow. Most of your normal business can be done electronically on our website. We apologize for the inconvenience but we greatly value everyone’s health.

The Porter County Recorder's Office in partnership with Fidlar Software is offering Property Fraud Alert, an automated database that monitors activity involving land records filed in the office. It is a FREE service.
Preventing mortgage fraud and identity theft is a top priority at the Porter County Recorders Office. The Recorder’s office has made a conscious effort to be on the look out for documents that may involve deed or mortgage related fraud. For your protection, consider subscribing to our "FREE" Property Fraud Alert website for real-time monitoring and notification of any potential fraudulent activity of interest to you. Your security does matter!!!!
BE INFORMED! - BE PROTECTED!!
Unfortunately, it's all too easy for a criminal to record a fraudulent deed making it appear as if they now own your home.
Once they've done this, they can use your name as collateral on a mortgage or even attempt to sell your home to an unsuspecting buyer.
Don't let this happen to you!
To sign up for this free service, go to: https://pfa.fidlar.com/INPorter and check the box that states "I agree to the terms stated above" to begin registration. The service will notify you if a document is recorded with your name and you will be given the option to be notified by "Email" or by "Phone". If you have any questions regarding this or are having trouble signing up, please call 1-219-465-3465 for assistance.
Data Privacy Statement: All information entered into the Property Fraud Alert site is used exclusively for the tracking and notification of recording activity. The owner of this website (Fidlar Technologies) agrees to never resell this information to any individual or company.
The Porter County Recorder’s Office would like to thank all that have served, and all those currently serving our country. Your service is greatly valued and appreciated.

Porter County Auditor
It's July 1, and that means that a variety of new laws take effect in Indiana. One of these was prompted by H.E.A. 1427. Beginning today, the fee charged by county auditors for real estate conveyances, also known as deed transfer fees, will increase to $10. The money goes into a fund that pays for maintaining plat books.
Well, we celebrated a birthday in the Porter County Recorder's Office this past Friday! Happiest of birthdays to you Kathy!
In observance of the Memorial Day Holiday, the Porter County Recorder's Office will be closed on Monday, May 27th. Any electronic documents submitted to us on the holiday will be processed on Tuesday, May 28th.

James A. Garfield National Historic Site
On this day 124 years ago-February 20, 1895-African American social reformer, writer, orator, and statesman Frederick Douglass died at age 77. Born into slavery in Maryland, Douglass escaped to the North as a young man and became the most famous black man in the country with his 1845 autobiography "Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass, an American Slave." He conferred with numerous presidents, including Abraham Lincoln, on the subjects of equal rights and black suffrage.
In 1881, President James A. Garfield appointed Douglass as Recorder of Deeds for the District of Columbia.
Today, the National Park Service administers Frederick Douglass National Historic Site in Washington, D.C. to commemorate and interpret the life, work, and legacy of Frederick Douglass.
We celebrated a birthday today in the Porter County Recorder's Office.
Happy Birthday Jayne!!!
The County Recorder, in partnership with Fidlar Technologies, is
excited to announce a service for our local Veterans, named Honor Rewards.
With Honor Rewards, Veterans can sign-up at the Recorder’s office or online to receive an Honor Rewards card, which qualifies them for discounts and incentives at participating businesses in the local community. This service is being made available at no cost to the county and its taxpayers.
This service accompanies the Porter County Recorder’s Office dedication to our veterans. Our office serves as the State of Indiana’s recommended county backup for preserving original military discharge papers (including DD214) at no charge, along with providing free certified copies of previously recorded discharge papers.
Veterans are encouraged to record their DD214 or other forms of discharge papers if they have not already. This reward program has also received the support of the Porter County Veteran Services Office.
To sign up, all a veteran needs to do is visit www.honorrewards.com, click on Porter County, IN and fill out the form with details on when they served and with what branch of the armed forces. If an individual prefers to fill out the form in person instead of online they can visit the Recorder’s Office during business hours and the staff will assist them.
The service is completely free and once signed up the veteran can expect to receive their Honor Rewards ID card in the mail in 1-2 weeks.
Local businesses and retailers can participate in the service by contacting the Recorder’s office or using the Business Sign-Up link on www.honorrewards.com. By participating, their business name and a hyperlink to their business will be listed on the Honor Rewards website for Porter County and they also will be regularly mentioned in email blasts to current Honor Rewards members.
In addition, participating businesses will be provided with promotional materials like door stickers and flyers to promote their involvement.
For more information, contact us at 219-465-3465 or visit www.honorrewards.com
