Fame in the family

Turns out there have been some pretty famous Kiwanis members in the past. Here are some of the most famous ones. Some of them surprised even us! http://bit.ly/2X3zKv4

Fame, as Kiwanis-family members have demonstrated, can be achieved by ruling nations or by popping corn, by exploring mountaintops and by blasting into outer space. One Kiwanian is credited with inventions that changed the world, while another is best known for putting words in a duck’s mouth.  O...

Recently, we noticed a Facebook post promoting the Kiwanis Ramp Festival in Newport, Tennessee. Some readers may not know what ramp is (I didn’t), but according to Wikipedia, it’s a species of wild onion, and it’s something of a culinary superstar right now.

Thankful for our group of amazing Kiwanians who always step up when needed. For the past six weeks, our members have been donating weekly to raise funds to purchase items to donate to Riley's for their comfort cart. The cart provides everyday supplies for families who children are under care. We've always been proud supporting Riley's and it's truly why we do what we do. Thank you amazing Kiwanians we appreciate all you do.

Kiwanis is often called a “community service organization.” That’s understandable — every year, thousands of our members do millions of hours of service in their communities.

Sight is something we sadly take for granted until it starts to fail. For some, getting eyeglasses is an impossible task. This group of Kiwanis members went the extra mile to make sure kids got the glasses they needed! http://bit.ly/2WCKhZc

In 1993, Kiwanian Bob Collison learned that many people in the Philippines desperately needed glasses but couldn’t afford them. So he started the Save Old Spectacles program at his club in Beaverton, Oregon, to collect glasses and send them overseas. Two years later, the program went district-wide...

Teaching children the joy of reading and developing a life long love for literature is a gift that they will never forget! http://bit.ly/2Wsw6ud

This past October, the Kiwanis Club of North St. Andrew in Kingston, Jamaica, started a program to feed children's stomachs, spirits and minds.  Through their Early Literacy Initiative, members read to 3- to 5-year-olds attending St. Paul Basic School and National Baptist Basic School. Patches on their bodies are wired to monitors that check temperature, pulse and breathing. But tiny hands can accidentally detach these devices. In Italy, hos...

We had a great turnout for our recent Aktion Club Meeting. Aktion Club put a lot of heart and effort in helping the Valparaiso Sunrise Kiwanis collect caps for its most recent project- buddy bench's. All caps collected were melted and turned into a bench made out of these caps. Proud Kiwanians Darcy Scully, Phil Hahn and Carol Short among five noon members assisted with presenting their very own bench at Opportunity Enterprise. Thank you all for your hard work, we appreciate all that you do for our community!
