Tonight we had the opportunity to be trained on Ben’s Blue Bags. The bags are designed for patients with Autism spectrum disorder (ASD). ASD is a developmental disability that can cause significant social, communication and behavioral challenges. These bags are designed to help the patient calm down and focus. These bags have ear muffs to help silence loud noises, fidget spinners, and an assortment of other items that help us help them. Thank you Matt Kodicek for the excellent training, and Kouts Fire Department for hosting. We have one bag on our truck, and 2 more bags on order.

We urge all hunter that use tree stands, please use harnesses and life lines! This could have easily been prevented. Great work by all agencies on scene, and wish a speedy recovery to the hunter.

Indiana Conservation Officers in District 10 are investigating a treestand fall after a Kouts man fell approximately 10 feet while removing an old stand in southern Porter County yesterday evening. Kouts Fire Department, Morgan Township Fire Department and Porter EMS searched the property and located the victim on the ground with a serious leg injury and removed him from the remote location with an off-road vehicle. ICO’s strongly encourage the use of a safety harness anytime you are going to be in an elevated position.

There were 75 firehouses in which at least one member was killed. The FDNY also lost its department chief, first deputy commissioner, one of its marshals, one of its chaplins, as well as other administrative or specialty personnel.
On 9-11, 121 engine companies, 62 ladder companies and 27 fire officers were deployed to the world trade center. All off-duty firefighters were recalled β€” the first time the FDNY had issued a total recall in over 30 years. In addition to the regular fire apparatus, and personnel assigned to the incident, the FDNY also deployed its only Haz-Mat unit, its mobile command center, its field communications unit, all its five rescue units, both of its high-rise units, six of its seven squad units, and one of its two tactical support units.
343 of New York's Bravest lost their lives that day. May they all rest in peace.

It is with great sadness; the Valparaiso Police Department announces the loss of Sergeant Steve Kobitz. Sergeant Kobitz end of watch came May 25, 2020, as the result of what is believed to be unknown medical conditions, while serving our community. Sgt. Kobitz began his career in February 1992, honorably serving the City of Valparaiso for over 28 years. Our condolences are extended to his family, friends, and fellow officers. You will be missed.

Be careful, numerous trees and lines down throughout south county.

PSA: Please refrain from going out and β€œexploring”! Several trees down across roadways and flooded streets across Porter County. First Responders and Highway Workers are working as quickly and safely as possible to clean up and get to emergencies! Also don’t call 911 for non emergencies aka down trees and flooded roads etc. Our dispatchers are working their butts off to get First Responders to true emergencies!

We have a had a great time doing the birthday parades these past weeks, and helping make birthdays more enjoyable during this crazy time.

With the state opening back up, and people starting to go back to work, the members of the fire department are becoming more busy as well.

With that, starting June 1st we will not be doing any more birthday parades. We are getting to the point where we will not be able to fulfill everyone’s request. Thank you for understanding and supporting our Department!

Stay Safe! πŸ”₯ πŸš’ πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’

In case you missed it, the Morgan Township Volunteer Fire Department recently joined a slew of other first responders who honored the staff at Porter Regional Hospital for their hard work and dedication during the pandemic.

This heartwarming display of appreciation made this a no-brainer for our Porter Regional Hospital #PhotoOfTheWeek!

The Morgan Township Fire Department understands that due to the COVID-19 outbreak, children are unable to have their friends and family over for birthday parties for health and safety reasons. We would like to try to do our part to help make birthdays special for Morgan Township children in the meantime.

If you would like to request that a fire truck drive past your residence and wish your child a happy birthday on or near their birthday, please send us a private message on Facebook or call Lt. Josh Wittmer at 219-309-938seven. We will need your child’s birthday, your child's name, their age, your name, address, and contact number. If your child has special needs or a disability which is not conducive to sirens, please advise us as well. Our firefighters will then attempt to drive by and wish your child a happy birthday from inside our fire trucks, following the social distancing guidelines. Please note that our visit is subject to change depending on call volume and firefighter availability. This program is available to Morgan township residents who have children in fifth grade or younger, with a birthday that falls during the COVID-19 social distancing period. We hope that this will help make this time pass a little easier!! πŸš’ πŸ”₯ πŸ‘¨β€πŸš’ πŸ’§ πŸŽ‚ 🎁

Little midnight action for us with quick knock down by crews!

Just after midnight this morning (1/28/20) BGFD was dispatched to a reported residential fire in the 300 Block of South 300 West. Initial reports advised of a fire in the basement with visible flames showing. Upon arrival, a quick offensive fire attack was performed on the basement and the fire was extinguished. There was moderate fire and smoke damage to a section of the basement and no injuries were reported. Thanks to Hebron, Kouts, and Morgan Township Fire Departments for their assistance on scene.

When is the pork chop pick up date? I didn't write it on my calendar, and I forget... (Hey, I'm old)
Hello Facebook Friends, About a month ago I met Dylan and I want to share his story with you all. Seven years ago at the age of 16 he was hit by a car while driving his moped. This terrible accident left him a C2 quadriplegic and changed his life forever. As I spent time with him I learned that his greatest passion since he was a little boy was to be a firefighter. He has started collecting patches from various fire departments and I thought it would be a great idea if we sent him patches from ALL over. Every fire depatment in each town has a different patch! Normally fire departments give these out for freeβ€”especially if you tell them Dylan’s story. Considering what he has been through he has kept an extremely positive attitude and has never given up hope! So I need your help! Please Share Dylans story and show him how much he is loved! If you have a local fire department, I encourage you to collect and send Dylan a patch or two :) Receiving these patches will make his day! Thanks so much!! Please mail patches to: Dylan Ferguson 9211 N. 650 E. Monticello, IN 47960
