Did you know that it's Transgender Awareness Week? See below for more information from Alliance about history, facts, and statistics regarding the trans community!
11/13-11/19 is Transgender Awareness Week! This is a week where transgender people and their allies take action to bring attention to the community by educating the public about who transgender people are, sharing stories and experiences, and advancing advocacy around the issues of prejudice, discrimination, and violence that affect the transgender community. Some ways to be a great ally is to ask for people’s pronouns (do not make any assumptions!), respect the name the trans person is currently using, be careful to not “out” someone, respect the terminology a trans person uses to describe their identity, be patient with a person who is questioning or exploring their gender identity, and understand that there is no “right” or “wrong” way to transition: it’s different for every person! This information is from glaad.org. Visit this website for more tips on being an awesome ally. We love our trans friends 💙💖🤍

Counselors for Social Justice will be hosting a viewing and discussion of 13th this Thursday, November 5 from 7:30-9:30 p.m. The event is CORE lab approved.
Ava DuVernay's film 13th explores themes of racial injustices, dating back from the 13th Amendment to today’s prison system. DuVernay discusses how the prison system disproportionately incarcerates black men. The historical components of discrimination are explored through a wide range of interviewees and statistics. Current movements call for equity and an end to systemic oppression. Following the film, the e-board of CSJ will facilitate a discussion on reactions and viewpoints.

Happy International Pronouns Day! Help make VU a more inclusive space by introducing yourself with pronouns, asking others for theirs, and being sure to correct people when they use the wrong pronouns when referencing others. Stop by the OMP if you have any questions!
Today, October 21st, is International Pronouns Day! This day seeks to make respecting, sharing, and educating about personal pronouns commonplace. Referring to people by the pronouns for themselves is basic to human dignity. Being referred to by the wrong pronouns particularly affects transgender and gender nonconforming people. Remember to introduce yourself with your pronouns and ask for other people’s pronouns- don’t assume! Respect people’s pronouns by using their pronouns that they identify with. And, don’t forget to practice using gender inclusive language! The information is from pronounsday.org and the graphic is from the Startup Champions Network.
Like the picture attached to this post and want to learn how to paint it? If so, join the OMP & the AARC for a guided canvas night on Thursday, Oct. 29th 5p-7p in the Gandhi-King Center. Registration is limited to the first 20 to sign up! Please RSVP by 12p on the 28th so that we can reach out to the waiting list.
Aprons, paint supplies, and canvas will be supplied, we just need you to be there! Artistic talent is not required, we will have an artist working with us via Zoom to make sure we know what we're doing.
