Hello Crawford County! As we come upon this holiday weekend, we wanted to share some information on fireworks in each of your cities and displays to be had!

🧨City of Alma - per city ordinance 88-6, fireworks are not allowed in the city limits.
- Alma is doing their city fireworks display Saturday, July 2nd at the dam

🧨City of Cedarville - fireworks are allowed within the city limits.

🧨City of Dyer - fireworks are not allowed in the city limits.
- Dyer is doing their city fireworks display Saturday, July 2nd at rhe community building from 1pm-9pm

🧨City of Kibler - fireworks are allowed within the city limits…. however, a courtesy call to dispatch is welcomed and the cut off time is 10pm

🧨City of Mountainburg - fireworks are not allowed in the city limits.
- Mountainburg is doing their fireworks display Monday July 4th at the old truck stop on 282. Hot dogs at 5pm that night and fireworks will start around dusk

🧨City of Mulberry - fireworks are allowed within the city limits until 10pm

🧨City of Van Buren - fireworks are not allowed in the city limits.
- Van Buren is doing their fireworks display on Monday, July 4th at the Field of Dreams. Gates open at 7p

A few safety tips for celebrating the 4th of July
- Keep water nearby in case of fire
- Wear eye protection if you light a firework
- Do not point fireworks at people or animals
- Never try relighting at dud.
- Use fireworks outdoors only in a cleared, safe area

As always, be safe whatever you choose to do. If you have an emergency, we’re here - dial 911.

🌟✨Fun Friday✨🌟

Two of our newest trainees, Olivia and Litzy, completed their Basic Telecommunicators Course this week! This course is state mandated for all new telecommunicators in the state of Arkansas and has to be taken within a year of employment. They spent a week learning about the history of 911, the ins and outs of the systems, and doing some fun team building exercises!

At the end of the week, the new recruits are sworn in as they recite the Telecommunicator Code of Ethics - we are very proud of these two and can’t wait to see how far they go!

Also, they’ll hate me for posting these, so let’s congratulate them on finishing a 40 hour training course with flying colors!!

We have had reports of a few roads flooded.

🌧Rena Road East in Van Buren, by Arvest Bank and Lowes
🌧Arkansas Street in Van Buren (there is also a manhole uncovered that a few cars have hit, be cautious. The water department has been notified and they are actively working to get this resolved)
🌧Pevehouse Road in Van Buren, at the low water bridge

🚗We have also had several accidents along the interstate and reports of a few trees blocking the roadway on North Hwy 71 by Mt Gaylor 🌳

If you know of any other roads that are blocked, please call the Dispatch Center at 479-474-8000 so we can notify the road department. REMEMBER, turn around, DON’T drown!!

The Crawford Co Emergency Communications Center was just notified by AT&T that there are systems down in our area and some AT&T customers may not be able to dial 911 if need be.

If your cell phone carrier is AT&T and you’re not able to get through on 911, please call 479-474-8000 to get directly into dispatch.

Once AT&T notifies our agency of the problem being resolved, we will pass it along.

In an agency our size, it’s imperative that my staff know how much they are appreciated. In April, we implemented a new “Dispatcher of the Quarter” … an email was sent out asking for nominations. They couldn’t just send me a name, I wanted to know what the person did or why they think this person deserves the title.

What does this do for our agency? Teammates brag on each other. They send good things about each other. Out of a staff of 10, 5 were nominated. At the end of the time period, I prepared a document and gave it to an unbiased person to read through and decide who would be selected.

After all of the above, I‘d like to congratulate Robin as the first ever Crawford Co ECC Dispatcher of the Quarter! Here’s what her teammates had to say about her:

“Robin’s shift was over, she could have left, but she stayed over without prompting to help with the call volume. I know this was probably Robin’s first time handling something like that and she did an amazing job. There was no second guessing and she just acted.”

“Robin is confident and sounds super professional when speaking to individuals over the phone/radio. You wouldn’t know she had only been dispatching since December! She’s killing it!”

Robin’s team player attitude and readiness to jump in is just a few reasons why she’s an amazing employee! We, as Crawford County all together, are very lucky to have her on our team!

As of March 1, 2022, Van Buren Code Enforcement/Animal Control has become its own department and is no longer a division of the police department. We are excited to introduce our new Code Enforcement/Animal Control team (“The Fab 4”): Head of Department, Steve Gunter, Administrative Assistant, Kristi Mattke, Officer Adam Mask, and Officer Brian Watteau. “We strive to make our great city even better by serving the public to the best of our ability.”-Steve Gunter.
