**SCAM ALERT***

We are urging residents to remain vigilant following recent reports of phone scams targeting local citizens.

According to reports, fraudsters are impersonating Carter County Deputies. In these calls, the scammers frequently threaten citizens with arrest or prosecution regarding missed jury duty notices, or they attempt to gather sensitive personal and business information. Additionally, some citizens have been instructed to purchase gift cards and provide the card numbers over the phone to clear up fictitious warrants.

Please be advised that these are well-known, ongoing scams. The Sheriff’s Office will never solicit funds, demand gift cards, or threaten arrest over the phone for missed jury duty.
Residents are strongly advised to adhere to the following safety protocols:
• Do not provide personal or financial information to anyone who calls you unsolicited.
• Hang up if a caller makes threats or demands immediate payment.
• Verify the call by contacting the Carter County Sheriff's Office directly
Please share this information with your friends, neighbors, and family members to help protect our community from these predatory tactics.

**GUILTY PLEA/DOC TRANSPORT**

On May 27th, 2026, Christian Clardy of Ellsinore, Missouri pleaded guilty to First-Degree So**my or Attempted So**my and was sentenced to 20 years in the Missouri Department of Corrections. Mr. Clardy was transported to DOC this week to begin serving his sentence. The victim in this case was under the age of 10 years.

I want to take a moment to recognize the outstanding work of my investigative team. Cases like these are among the most difficult and emotionally challenging to investigate. The victims involved must carry the impact of these traumatic events throughout their lives, and their willingness to come forward and seek justice requires tremendous courage. They have my deepest respect and admiration.

I would also like to thank our Prosecuting Attorney Hannah Pender for the countless hours spent working alongside our investigators to ensure this case was thoroughly prepared and successfully prosecuted. Their dedication and commitment helped bring a measure of justice and accountability for the victims.

***Search Warrants served in Ellsinore and Van Buren****

My team served two search warrants this week — one in Ellsinore and one in Van Buren — resulting in four arrests and a whole lot less poison on our streets. These homes are officially out of the drug-sale business.

During the investigations and searches, deputies seized quantities of methamphetamine, scales, drug paraphernalia, money, and other evidence connected to illegal drug activity. Warrants have been issued for the following individuals:

1. David Munn- Deliver controlled substance, possession of controlled substance, keeping or maintaining a public nuisance – Felony- $100,000 Cash/Surety bond

2. Emma Clark- Deliver controlled substance, Keeping or maintaining a public nuisance- $30,000 cash only.

3. Mitchell Gore- Deliver controlled substance, possession of controlled substance, keeping or maintaining a public nuisance – Felony- $100,000 Cash/Surety bond

4. Paula Parsons- Deliver controlled substance, possession of controlled substance, keeping or maintaining a public nuisance – Felony- $100,000 Cash/Surety bond

All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

I want to personally thank the citizens of Carter County for continuing to trust my team and I with information that helps us take this poison out of our communities. Your support makes operations like this possible, and I can promise you one thing — we will NOT tolerate drugs in this county.

A special thank you goes to the Van Buren Police Department, NPS, and the South-Central Drug Task Force for their assistance during these investigations and search warrant operations.

Most importantly, I want to recognize the deputies and investigators who put in the long hours away from their families to protect this county. Their work ethic, dedication, and commitment to this community are second to none.

To the dealers out there: Carter County is a bad place to do business.

**Swift Water Rescue**

In the early morning hours, a Carter County deputy responded to a report of a medical emergency near the Current River. Upon arrival, the individual entered the river, prompting the activation of a swift water rescue.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol, National Park Service, West Carter Ambulance, and the Carter County Sheriff’s Office quickly mobilized, searching both the water and the riverbanks. Despite high water levels and heavy fog, responders remained determined. National Park Service swift water rescue personnel ultimately located the individual in the river experiencing a medical crisis.

The individual was quickly removed from the water, transferred to waiting medical personnel, and transported for further care. This incident highlights the power of teamwork in critical situations. I am proud of our team for their dedication throughout the night, grateful to the ambulance crew who joined the search, appreciative of the National Park rangers for their remarkable rescue, and thankful for the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s rapid response.

The partnerships on display and the life-saving actions taken last night were truly outstanding. No names will be released at this time.
