🚨 Van Horn – This Is Bigger Than Politics. This Is About Progress.
Under Texas Local Government Code §§ 501.062, 504.051, and 505.051, a City Council can remove EDC board members without cause. As your city has done in the past, wiping out entire boards.
But just because it’s legal—doesn’t mean it’s right.
It has now been confirmed that your re-elected Councilman Lyndon McDonald has requested that the ENTIRE Van Horn Economic Development Corporation (VHEDC) board be removed—without justification or evidence of wrongdoing. This request is on the agenda for this Tuesday’s City Council meeting.
Let’s be clear:
This board has done everything legally, ethically, and transparently.
We have passed every audit—with the previous and current City Council directly involved in our oversight.
We’ve brought in external auditors, filed state affidavits for any and ALL conflicts, and retained a top-tier law firm to ensure compliance at every step.
This is not about governance. This is about personal feelings and political control.
So before they try to erase the people working for you—ask yourself:
What has this board really done wrong? Or… what have we done right?
• Created and retained local jobs while helping fund over 15 local businesses.
• Secured over 200 acres to guarantee community-first development and affordable housing currently underway.
• Brought in new business, with FOUR more set to open next month including a gym, food/drink spots, auto detailing, and a photography studio. All NOW at RISK!
• Developed and are opening a community event center, shared space, and business incubator to ensure small businesses thrive.
• Granted $150,000+ in FLIP revitalization funds to improve signage, paint, and facades along Broadway.
• Lit up Broadway with brand new streetlights
• Granted $100,000+ in lighting improvements to the Rodeo Grounds
• Supported our local youth with sponsored events including the Féria Family Day and investment in their future
• Identified jet fuel leaking into our ground, forcing accountability, uncovering violations, and protecting OUR health
• Cleaned up old corruption, holding past board members accountable, and made sure YOUR voice is finally heard
• Generated a new revenue stream at the airport for the town and county to ensure progress doesn’t stop. Which includes bringing back fuel tax dollars to the community, and negotiating an 8% revenue share with the community!
All of this—done by a fully volunteer board, including the President. We’ve shown up. We’ve done the work. We’ve followed every rule. And now they want to wipe it all away.
So we ask again:
WHY? What is the real reason?
Because progress threatens power.
Because doing the right thing steps on the wrong toes.
Because some people would rather cling to control than lift up a community.
This type of leadership is unethical, questionable, and unacceptable.
If the community believes change is needed—let the board lead that conversation with transparency, not political ambush.
🗣️Now we need you.
• Show up Tuesday at City Hall.
• Call your elected officials.
• Demand answers. Demand facts. Demand integrity.
Spread the word. Share this post. Show up. Speak out.
Van Horn is finally transforming—don’t let them turn it back.
