NEWS RELEASE 10/02/2026

Van Wert County Sheriff Thomas M. Riggenbach announced that the Ohio Traffic Safety Office (OTSO) awarded $50,323.60 in federal traffic safety funding to the Van Wert County Sheriff's Office for fiscal year 2027.

Sheriff Riggenbach advises that these funds will be used to provide additional personnel and time to focus on making roadways safer in Van Wert County.

The Van Wert County Sheriff's Office is aware that unsafe drivers are endangering the safety of our residents in Van Wert County. To help save lives and make the roadways safer, the Van Wert County Sheriff's Office will use the grant funds to focus on traffic-related fatal crashes, alcohol-related crashes, and distracted driving and inattention on the major highways and local roadways in Van Wert County.

These funds, through OTSO, support the efforts of safety partners statewide and focus on traffic safety priority areas such as distracted driving, impaired driving, motorcycle safety, and youthful drivers.

0717 hrs. – Deputies responded to an area of U.S. Route 224 in Jackson Township for a report of reckless driving.

0754 hrs. – Deputies spoke with a citizen regarding a complaint of theft from a resident on Blaine Street in the Village of Scott.

0905 hrs. – Deputies responded to a residence on South Adams Street in the Village of Middle Point for a report of a domestic dispute.

1140 hrs. – Deputies assisted with a Funeral Es**rt from the City of Van Wert to Paulding County.

1218 hrs. – Deputies served the following warrants issued by Van Wert Common Pleas Court. The subjects are being held at the Van Wert County Correctional Facility.
• Kaden James Michael Ballard, age 25, of Delphos, was charged with Second-Degree Felony Robbery and Fifth-Degree Felony Strangulation.
• Ryan William Grime, age 33, of Bryan, was charged with Fourth-Degree Felony Receiving Stolen Property.
• Esteban Rivera Jr., age 49, of Fort Wayne, was charged with Third-Degree Felony Weapons Under Disability.
• Justin Tyler Rey, age 19, of Kathleen, Georgia, was charged with Fourth-Degree Felony Strangulation.

1255 hrs. – Deputies responded to an area of Dillon Street in the Village of Ohio City to check an open line 911call.

1341 hrs. – Deputies served a warrant issued by Van Wert Common Pleas Court for a first-degree felony charge of Possession of Co***ne and Trafficking in Co***ne. Joseph Arthur Mohr Jr., age 50, of Ohio City, is being held at the Van Wert County Correctional Facility.

1445 hrs. – Dispatched Convoy EMS to a residence on West Tully Street in the Village of Convoy for a subject who fell.

1529 hrs. – Deputies responded to an area of U.S. Route 30 in Tully Township for a report of a horse with a leg stuck in a fence.

1543 hrs. – Deputies served a warrant issued by Van Wert Common Pleas Court for a Third-Degree Felony charge of Domestic Violence and a Fourth-Degree Felony Charge of Strangulation. Corbin Cornelius, age 25, of Van Wert, is being held at the Van Wert County Correctional Facility.

1702 hrs. – Deputies responded to an area of Harrison Willshire Road in Willshire Township for a report of a stray dog lying in the roadway.

1739 hrs. – Deputies served a warrant issued by Van Wert Common Pleas Court for a Second-Degree Felony Charge of Possessing Narcotics and a First-Degree Misdemeanor charge of OVI. Jason Wayne Monroe, age 52, of Delphos, is being held at the Van Wert County Correctional Facility.

1825 hrs. – Deputies responded to a residence on East Tully Street in the Village of Convoy for a report of an unruly juvenile.

1857 hrs. – Dispatched Delphos EMS to a residence on Brickner Road in Washington Township for a subject having difficulty breathing.

1919 hrs. – Deputies responded to an area of Wren Landeck Road in Liberty Township for a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a deer.

1931 hrs. – Dispatched Middle Point EMS to a residence on Lincoln Highway in Ridge Township for a subject having difficulty breathing.

2036 hrs. – Deputies responded to an area of U.S. Route 30 in Tully Township for a report of an occupied disabled vehicle.

1936 hrs. – Deputies responded to a residence on South Race Street in the City of Van Wert to assist a motorist locked out of their vehicle.

2107 hrs. – Deputies, along with Scott EMS, responded to an area of U.S. Route 127 in Union Township for a report of a pedestrian struck by a vehicle, and the vehicle had left the scene. Scott EMS transported the victim to Paulding County Hospital. The Ohio State Highway Patrol also responded to the scene.

1031 hrs. – Deputies responded to a residence on Walcott Street in the Village of Willshire to assist a motorist locked out of their vehicle.

1220 hrs. – Deputies responded to an area of Middle Point Wetzel Road in Washington Township to check a suspicious item in the ditch.

1500 hrs. – Deputies assisted with a Funeral Es**rt from the City of Van Wert to Ridge Cemetery.

1526 hrs. – Deputies responded to a residence on North Cherry Street in the Village of Convoy for a report of threats.

1900 hrs. – Deputies responded to an area of Dustman Road in Pleasant Township for a report of a motor vehicle crash. A 2018 Kia Soul was westbound on Dustman Road and left the roadway, striking a John Deere tractor that was parked off the roadway. No injuries were reported.

1913 hrs. – Deputies, along with Wren EMS, responded to a residence on Glenmore Road in Willshire Township for a report of a subject found deceased. No foul play is suspected.

2124 hrs. – Dispatched Van Wert EMS to a location on Lincoln Highway in the City of Van Wert for a subject having a seizure.

0823 hrs. – Deputies responded to an area of Towne Center Boulevard in the City of Van Wert to assist the Van Wert Police.

1028 hrs. – Deputies responded to an area of South Washington Street in the City of Van Wert for a loose dog.

1150 hrs. – Deputies responded to a location on South Shane Street in the Village of Ohio City to assist a motorist locked out of their vehicle.

1249 hrs. – Deputies responded to an area of U.S. Route 33 in Willshire Township for a report of an oversized load blocking all lanes of travel.

1252 hrs. – Deputies responded to a residence on Lincoln Highway in Pleasant Township for a complaint of harassment. Narketta Bernice Mullins, age 51, of Pleasant Township, was arrested for a First-Degree Misdemeanor charge of Aggravated Menacing and was transported to the Van Wert County Correctional Facility.

1358 hrs. – Deputies spoke to a resident regarding a complaint of fraud in Tully Township.

1415 hrs. – Deputies responded to an area of State Route 118 in Willshire Township for a report of reckless driving.

1459 hrs. – Deputies, along with Ohio City Fire, responded to a residence on Van Wert Willshire Road in Pleasant Township for a report of a structure fire. Convoy Fire, Rockford Fire, Van Wert Fire, and Wren Fire were also dispatched. CERT responded to assist with traffic, firefighter rehab, and to assist the family involved.
One subject was transported to Ohio Health.

1513 hrs. – Deputies responded to a location on Towne Center Boulevard in the City of Van Wert to assist a motorist locked out of their vehicle.

1610 hrs. – Deputies responded to an area of Lincoln Highway in Ridge Township for a report of a stop sign being down.

1705 hrs. – Deputies spoke to a resident from Union Pleasant Road in Pleasant Township regarding a report of a suspicious package that was received.

1718 hrs. – Deputies responded to an area of Giffin Road in Hoaglin Township for an automated message of a possible crash.

1739 hrs. – Dispatched Van Wert EMS to a residence on North Washington Street in the City of Van Wert.

2105 hrs. – Dispatched Middle Point EMS to a residence on Lincoln Highway in Washington Township for a subject with chest pain.
