You know we aren’t allowed to have too many days of nice weather in a row…

Keeping an eye on the potential for a few bouts of severe weather coming up on Saturday and then again on Monday. Nothing too wild and crazy at this point, but we will update as needed.

Rain chances will persist from Saturday morning into Sunday evening giving way to warmer temperatures in the upper 80’s(‼️) for Sunday and Monday.

Storms have developed along a passing cold front and should move through the area over the next few hours. A few components for severe weather are lacking, but nevertheless storms could still bring gusty winds.

No current warnings or watches are in effect for anyone in our area.

There is a Marginal Risk for severe storms later on this evening (5/9) with current modeling showing storm development between 6:30p-8:30p. The primary hazard would be gusty winds between 50-60mph.

Next week looks to be relatively mild with a few peeks of sunshine and chance of rain mid-week. Trends into next weekend show a warm up, though!

We would like to take a moment and give a HUGE thank you to Les Bowen and Elite Drone Services for their generous contribution of a drone to our agency.

This provides us the ability to perform damage assessment surveys in coordination with the National Weather Service, search and rescue with Law Enforcement agencies and any other tasks that may come about.

Les has been a dedicated volunteer for our agency and continues to give back to surrounding communities in their time of need.

Storms are pushing east with the cold front in northern Indiana with a few reaching severe thresholds, but a weakening trend should take hold into the later hours. Anticipate a few rumbles of thunder and gusty winds between 1:00a-3:00a.

Additional storms have developed in Illinois and are moving eastward ahead of a cold front. A few storms may be severe initially, but they will weaken as they move across northern Indiana and southern Lower Michigan. Gusty winds, small hail, lightning, and heavy rain will all be hazards tonight.

There is a 40% chance of a Severe Thunderstorm Watch being issued for our area over the next few hours. We will be monitoring conditions.

Van Wert has been upgraded to a Slight Risk of severe storms for later on this evening. Primary hazards could include damaging winds, large hail and heavy rain. While a tornado cannot be ruled out, confidence in tornado's developing remain low.

Latest models have a line of storms moving through the area in the 1:00am-3:00am timeframe.

We will continue to monitor conditions through the evening and provide updates as needed!

A breezy Monday with winds 10-20mph and gusts possibly up to 35mph will precede a chance for thunderstorms in the late evening into overnight hours. Current indications show chances for a few strong to severe storms with small hail and damaging winds.

Following tomorrow’s severe weather chances, more rain will persist through the week along with mild temps.

After receiving around 0.5” of rain today, the sun decided to peak out for a little fun and bring a hint of warmth, but overnight a Freeze Warning goes into effect from 2:00a-9:00a. Next week will bring chilly temps along with several chances for precipitation.

Summertime is welcome at any point now 😅

It has certainly been a whirlwind of events in the office this week. From celebrating the long and storied career of retiring Director Rick McCoy to swearing in our new Director Matt Saunier, there have been many laughs and tears over the past few days.

Nixel Text Alerts was performing website maintenance during the timeframe of tonight's storms which caused a delay in the Warning messaging going out.

Currently all warnings for Van Wert County have been allowed to expire and the severe threat has diminished for overnight.
