The Lewis County Service Unit of The Salvation Army will have a tent set up with free water and we’ll have our red kettle for folks to make a donation to help support the assistance we offer to Lewis County residents in their time of need. Please stop by and say hello. “Helping one person might not change the world, but it could change the world for one person.”

There will be a dedication ceremony on Saturday during the River Town Fair. We will be reading the names of all 159 Veterans who will have banners hanging in downtown Vanceburg. We invite all the families who have been part of this wonderful project. Starts at 11:00.

Please share.

Shifts are generally just two hours at a time, more if you can. In Vanceburg, volunteers are needed at the Marathon/McDonalds location on Friday and Saturdays and at the Maysville Walmart on Monday and Tuesday. 80% of all monies donated stays in Lewis County to assist local people in need. It's almost time for the Red Kettle Campaign and volunteers are desperately needed to ring the bells in Maysville at Walmart on Mondays and Tuesdays starting on November 21 and at the Marathon/McDonalds location in Vanceburg on Fridays and Saturdays beginning on Saturday, November 19. This is a good way for students to get credit for community service and for elected officials, individuals, churches, organizations, and businesses to give back to the community. Shifts are generally 2 hours but you can do more or less if you can't do the full 2 hours. 80% of each donation stays in Lewis County. If interested in volunteering at either location, please just send us a message. Thanks and God bless you.

Effective July 1, we will have our new Welfare Secretary and we’ll post their contact information. They will assist Lewis County residents with gas vouchers for medical appointments, food vouchers if you have not been able to obtain groceries through other sources, Walmart gift cards for fire losses of personal residences, and non-narcotic prescriptions not covered by your insurance. Our local Service Unit funds are generated through the annual Red Kettle campaigns and through donations. Since we do not receive grants or funding from other sources, we are limited in the amounts and areas of our assistance. However, we do try to assist those in need with as much as we can. If you need assistance prior to July 1, please send us a private message and we will get in contact with you as quickly as possible. May God bless each of you and keep you safe.

Some of you may or may not have read about the recent attack on the character of The Salvation Army. We have not, nor will we ever condone racism of any kind, it undermines our efforts and goes against our mission…”to meet human needs in Jesus’ name without Discrimination!”

The following is a National Response from the Headquarters for The Salvation Army.

Happy Holidays and Merry Christmas,

This special time of year is a welcome reminder of the things we are grateful for—and for the power of service on behalf of those who are less fortunate. Without your support of time and generosity, The Salvation Army would not be able to serve 30 million people each year who are in need.

Despite that good work, you may be aware of some recent attacks on The Salvation Army that misrepresent our beliefs on race and racism. Some individuals and groups have attempted to mislabel our organization to serve their own agenda(s). They have claimed that we believe our donors should apologize for their skin color, that The Salvation Army believes America is an inherently racist society, and that our organization has abandoned its beliefs for one ideology or another.

We wanted you to hear from The Salvation Army directly that those claims are false, and they distort the very goal of our work.

You can be sure that, despite these false claims, we remain undeterred in our mission because vulnerable Americans need our help—and yours. We remain deeply grateful for the support of a generous public—people from all walks of life and from all parts of the country—who help us meet human need wherever it exists.

God bless you, and Happy Holidays.
