Been in a car accident? Don’t just settle for a general checkup.

General doctors may miss hidden injuries like whiplash, soft tissue damage, or spinal misalignments that can show up days or even weeks later. Accident specialists know exactly what to look for and how to document your injuries for insurance and legal claims.

Myth vs Reality !
Myth: If you don’t have pain right after an auto accident, you’re probably fine

Reality: Many soft tissue injuries — neck injuries in particular — are often not discovered for many days or even weeks after an accident due the adrenaline that is released by the body. Giving the body time to recover from the initial shock of an accident can help determine and diagnose many symptoms that were previously unnoticed.

Safe Driving Tip Tuesday !
For most of our lives, we have heard that the correct place to put your hands on the steering wheel was in the 10 o’clock and 2 o’clock position on the steering wheel, but this is not the case anymore!

It is now recommended to have your hands slightly lower in the 9 o’clock and 3 o’clock position! By making this small change to your hands while driving the risk of being injured by the airbag as it deploys is greatly reduced. It is also recommended to have your thumbs along the rim of the steering wheel opposed to having them tucked in the wheel. This is once again to protect yourself (and your thumbs!) in the case of an accident and the airbag going off.

You may also find that it is easier to turn the wheel as well in this new position!

Need 2 Know
Should you go to the hospital, emergency room, general practitioner, or chiropractor after an auto accident?

Hospital personnel are effective at identifying and treating a variety of injuries that occur during a car accident, and the emergency room is the best place to head after such an occurrence to rule out any life-threatening or critical injuries. Days later, many accident victims experience the aftermath of soft tissue damage, and significant and painful swelling and discomfort can be expected. In these cases, chiropractic adjustments can often provide relief and help prevent problems that can lead to a lifetime of chronic pain. Following up with a general practitioner in conjunction with chiropractic adjustments can help speed healing and provide treatment to most every type of injury.

Of course, if the accident is serious enough you should always be taken and treated at the hospital.

It is estimated that 15% - 40% of those who are injured in a motor vehicle collision will suffer from ongoing chronic pain afterwards. This is a staggering number! That means in the United States with 4.8 million people being injured in an auto collision that 720,000 to 1,920,000 people are left with chronic pain from their accident.

It is important to know the statistics so you can help yourself not be a part of them. If you have been in an accident it is important to see a doctor and an auto accident specialist so they can try to help you avoid the chronic pain that so many others suffer with.
