Our ancestors endured so much so future generations could live, love, laugh, and experience joy. Honoring them does not mean carrying only the weight of their struggles—it also means
embracing the beauty, strength, and hope they passed down to us.

Native joy can be found in sharing stories, preparing traditional foods, creating art, spending time with family, gathering as a community, and hearing children laugh. These moments are more than happiness; they are reminders that Native people and cultures continue to thrive.

For those healing from violence or trauma, joy may sometimes feel distant or even uncomfortable. But you deserve moments of peace, connection, laughter, and love. Experiencing joy does not erase what you have survived. Joy can be part of reclaiming yourself and moving forward in your healing journey.

What is bringing you joy today?

As summer begins to shift into fall, the changing season invites us to pause and consider what we want to carry forward. For generations, Native people have gathered food, medicines, stories, teachings, and strength from time spent with relatives and community. Gathering has never been only about preparing our homes, it is also about caring for our minds, bodies, spirits, and relationships.

This season, you may be gathering courage for a new beginning, peace after a difficult time, wisdom from an Elder, or moments of rest and connection. Whatever you need for the season ahead, remember that healing does not have to happen alone. We can draw strength from our culture, our community, the land, and one another.

What are you gathering for the next season of your life?

For countless generations, salmon have nourished Native people throughout the Pacific Northwest and have held deep cultural and spiritual importance. Each year, salmon follow the rivers back to the waters where their journey begins reminding us of the importance of returning to our roots and honoring the connections that sustain us.

Like the salmon, our healing journeys may require strength, perseverance, and the courage to keep moving through difficult waters. Healing can also mean finding our way back to culture, community, family, the land, and the parts of ourselves we may have felt disconnected from.

Our ancestors’ teachings remind us that we do not have to make this journey alone. There is strength in remembering who we are, where we come from, and the people and traditions that continue to carry us forward.

What helps you feel connected, grounded, and closer to home?

It can be easy to compare your healing journey to someone else’s and wonder why you are not further along. But healing is not a race, and there is no single timeline you are expected to follow.

Some seasons are for blooming. Others are for resting, rebuilding your roots, or simply gathering the strength to keep growing. Every season has value—even the ones that feel quiet or uncertain.

Be gentle with yourself and honor where you are today. Your growth is still happening, and your time to bloom will come. 🌸💜

What part of your growth are you learning to appreciate in this season?

Healing does not always look like pushing through. Sometimes it looks like pausing, changing direction, setting a new boundary, or choosing a path that brings you greater peace.

Like a river, you can move differently and still move forward. A detour does not erase your progress or take away from your purpose—it may be guiding you toward the path you need now.

Give yourself permission to flow, adjust, and keep going in the way that feels safest and most supportive for you. 💙

What is one new path you are giving yourself permission to explore?
