So, there’s a proposed law that would require cognitive fitness tests for elderly U.S. lawmakers. Now, before you get upset about age discrimination, let’s be real—some of these lawmakers can barely keep up with basic facts. If a cognitive fitness test is what it takes to make sure our leaders are up to the job, then so be it.

It’s not about age; it’s about ability. If you’re making decisions that affect millions of people, shouldn’t you be able to prove that you’re mentally capable of doing so? At this point, it feels more like a necessity than a suggestion. Our country deserves leaders who are sharp, not ones who can barely remember what day it is.
