Every Monday, at Vancouver Mall Library posts a question of the week and this week's question is...
Are there any books you haven't been able to finish? Why not?
Amber: "Here's the thing. When I pick up a book, I'm usually very intentional about my picks. Admittedly, I can power through an okay or bad book. Alright, I'll be frank. Booktok got to me. I picked up a copy of the Six of Crows by Leigh Bardugo. It was a book that many had recommended, and the internet seemed to really like it. It is a YA heist novel that is supposedly very character driven. Everything about this book should have worked for me. I tried to start reading it several times and stopped at about the same time, just a few chapters in. I don't know why, but when I was reading this book, my eyes glazed over. Something wasn't connecting. At first I chalked it up to the plethora of characters and names, and the fact that the reader is dropped into the world. These are things that aren't usually roadblocks for me. I've read classic literature with more extensive character lists, and I've read a ton of fantasy and sci-fi with harsh world drops. Sometimes, books just don't click. I have nothing against the author, and I don't tell people not to read her novels. I wouldn't leave a bad review, and I know I am in the minority for not liking this book. It simply isn't for me, and that's okay."
Now it's your turn! We look forward to hearing from you!
