We understand the inconvenience this may cause and want to assure our beneficiaries that we are working to mitigate these impacts.

Alternate care options:
-For urgent illness, non-active-duty members can go to TRICARE-covered urgent care centers without a referral.

There have been a couple cases of chicken pox on base. The 30 MDG has put together a helpful guide to keep your family safe.

Key Facts:

- Chickenpox is highly contagious, but risk of severe illness is very low in healthy children

- Most adults are already immune — vaccination became routine in 1995

- Symptoms appear 10-21 days after exposure: fever, tiredness, then itchy rash

- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommend vaccination over natural infection — it's safer and may reduce shingles risk later in life

Special Guidance for High-Risk Groups:

- Unvaccinated adults without prior chickenpox: Contact your provider — post-exposure vaccination may still be effective if given within 3-5 days

- Pregnant women without immunity: Contact your OB provider immediately — preventive treatment is available. Varicella vaccine cannot be given during pregnancy

- Immunocompromised individuals: Contact your provider urgently — preventive treatment or antiviral medication may be recommended

Home Treatment:

-Consult your primary care provider for appropriate fever relief medications.

- Calamine lotion or oatmeal baths for itching

Seek Emergency Care For:

- Change in mental status

- Signs of dehydration

- Difficulty breathing
