🇺🇸 4th of July in Vandervoort is almost here 🇺🇸

❤️ After some issues at last year's event, parking this year will be first come - first serve. We are going to have flagging out to help folks park in appropriate rows and fit as many vehicles on the ballfield as possible. The field across highway 246 will also be open for parking. Our firefighters and volunteers will be at the gates accepting donations and helping you find a parking spot, if needed!

🤍 We will be on-site with a booth Friday evening and Saturday all day! We will have a dunk booth ($5 for 3 attempts; for an extra donation, we will even let you pick your firefighter!) some of our trucks will also be staged for the kiddos to tour.

💙 Don't forget about the parade Saturday morning at 9 AM, and all of the amazing vendors that will be set up.

We look forward to this event every year, and can't wait to celebrate with our community! 🎆

Members of VRVFD and Wickes Fire Department underwent Introduction to the Fire Service and Personal Protective Equipment training this week, culminating in a practical exercise teaching swift and proper PPE donning, team entry and structure fire safety, among other things. This type of hands-on training helps members learn stress reduction tactics, breathing techniques and strategies to better respond to emergencies. Proud of this team! 📛

Don't be scared; be prepared!

A few things to consider -

🔦 Have an alternate, non-electric light source handy
📲 Charge your cell phone/electronics
🌦 Have a way to receive weather updates in real time (the Arkansas Weather Network is a great resource!)
🌪 In the event of a tornado, straight line winds, or large hail have a pre-determined "safe zone" to get to (think low lying, no windows, etc)

Although it's still too soon to know for certain what weather we will receive, the Vandervoort Fire Department is ready to assist our community and surrounding areas in any way possible. Stay aware, stay ready and have a plan!

2 PM update on the Arkansas weather situation...

A boundary will separate most of Arkansas from air that's pretty stable to air that is much more unstable.

Along and south of this boundary is where we'll have to watch for significant severe weather this evening.

The Scott, Polk, Howard, Sevier, Little River, Hempstead, Miller county corridor is especially the area to watch if a storm can latch onto that boundary.

Tornadoes and vey large hail would be possible.

A rogue storm or two could go north of the boundary into northwest or western Arkansas, but that would favor hail and wind with an extremely low tornado risk.

Eventually the storms that form into southwest Arkansas (they will follow the boundary) will form into one big complex of storms with a hail/wind risk. This complex could reach El Dorado by midnight.

Have a way to get warnings in western and southwest AR this evening!
