Don't be scared; be prepared!
A few things to consider -
π¦ Have an alternate, non-electric light source handy
π² Charge your cell phone/electronics
π¦ Have a way to receive weather updates in real time (the Arkansas Weather Network is a great resource!)
πͺ In the event of a tornado, straight line winds, or large hail have a pre-determined "safe zone" to get to (think low lying, no windows, etc)
Although it's still too soon to know for certain what weather we will receive, the Vandervoort Fire Department is ready to assist our community and surrounding areas in any way possible. Stay aware, stay ready and have a plan!
2 PM update on the Arkansas weather situation...
A boundary will separate most of Arkansas from air that's pretty stable to air that is much more unstable.
Along and south of this boundary is where we'll have to watch for significant severe weather this evening.
The Scott, Polk, Howard, Sevier, Little River, Hempstead, Miller county corridor is especially the area to watch if a storm can latch onto that boundary.
Tornadoes and vey large hail would be possible.
A rogue storm or two could go north of the boundary into northwest or western Arkansas, but that would favor hail and wind with an extremely low tornado risk.
Eventually the storms that form into southwest Arkansas (they will follow the boundary) will form into one big complex of storms with a hail/wind risk. This complex could reach El Dorado by midnight.
Have a way to get warnings in western and southwest AR this evening!
