Washington Parish Fire District #6 serves the south east part of Washington Parish. We are responsible for 52 square mile. We have 2 stations, and 8 trucks

This week, our firefighters spent two days sharpening their search and recovery skills with hands‑on training led by Mark Michaud of Southeast Louisiana Underwater Search and Recovery.

Mark walked our crews through the fundamentals of underwater search operations and the critical steps they can take before his team arrives to make these missions safer, faster, and more efficient.

Our department has already assisted Southeast Louisiana Underwater Search and Recovery on multiple scenes this year, and joint training like this strengthens teamwork and coordination when seconds matter.

This is just the beginning—more joint trainings are on the way as we continue building strong partnerships to better serve Washington Parish.

Attention Fire District #6 residents. As we all are aware, right now our area has seen little rainfall the past several weeks and what little bit we have received, the ground soaked up quickly. We are currently under a burn ban in Washington Parish due to these dry conditions. We ask that if anyone sees a potential vegetation/woods for fire to please contact 911 immediately so that our crews can get a quick jump on it to prevent it from becoming a large fire.

The month of June saw our crews engage in a multitude of operations, responding to an array of calls that tested our capabilities. These ranged from routine emergencies to critical incidents such as a saw dust silo fire and support provided to WPSO during two separate drowning incidents. Our sincere thanks go to Southeast Louisiana Underwater Search & Recovery for their unwavering support and commitment to our parish, representing a crucial partnership. As the heat wave continues, we urge the public to take necessary precautions to stay safe and hydrated.

Notice to Motorists: Hwy. 436 and Fostertown Rd is currently congested due to a significant presence of emergency vehicles parked on the narrow shoulders of the highway due to an ongoing search operation. The area will remain active during the ongoing search operation.

During May, our crews handled 50 emergency calls and undertook training in drafting operations. Such training ensures our firefighters remain proficient and provides valuable learning experiences for new team members, echoing the fire service’s mantra: 'Train like your life or someone else’s life depends on it, because it does.'

Fire District #6 sends our heartfelt sympathies to Lieutenant Jon Brandon, a cherished member of our team. Over the weekend, his devoted wife Shelly left a lasting legacy as she passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Shelly was an integral part of our Fire Department family from day one, earning a special place in our hearts that will never fade. As we mourn, we ask that you hold Jon and their children close in your thoughts and prayers during this challenging time.

The month of April was another busy month for our crews. Crews responded to approximately 54 incidents in April. Incidents ranges from medical calls, brush fires, house fires, industrial fires, wrecks, and more. Our firefighters work hard everyday to give the residents of our district the best service possible when they have to show up. Along with the calls and every day task, the administration put in close to forty hours of work getting information together to send into Property Insurance Association of Louisiana for this year’s upcoming fire rating. Our goal is to ultimately lower the fire rating for our district as low as we possibly can, or to at a minimum maintain the rating that we already have. The rating is very important not only to the department, but also to the community. The lower we are able to get the rating, the more residents can save on the ever rising cost of homeowners and businesses insurance. We work hard trying to constantly improve so that we can have the best chance possible to lower our rating. Last but not least, we want to thank the community for supporting your fire department and helping it to continue to have the ability to continue to improve.

Our crews were actively engaged in March, responding to 51 incidents. A significant number of these calls involved large woods fires that necessitated a multi-agency response. Although we have experienced multiple rounds of rain, the area remains drought-stricken. As we transition to drier conditions, residents are reminded to be mindful of outdoor burning. Should a fire spiral out of control, dial 911 to facilitate a prompt response from our teams. We are always prepared to respond to any call for assistance.
