🚒 Welcome Home, Heavy Rescue! 🚒

Today we proudly take delivery of our brand new Heavy Rescue truck.

This vehicle represents a significant investment in the safety of our community, and we sincerely thank the residents of the City of Vassar, Vassar Township, Juniata Township, and Tuscola Township for your continued trust and support.

Due to the volume of motor vehicle accidents we respond to each year, Vassar has always invested in a heavier rescue platform to ensure we are prepared. This new Heavy Rescue carries the majority of our on-scene manpower, our Jaws of Life, and specialized tools needed for nearly every incident we face—from serious traffic accidents to hazardous material responses and structure fires.

This truck is designed to serve for many years to come, improving safety for residents and firefighters alike.

Good information if you were to ever come across an accident.

With road conditions continuing to worsen, we ask everyone to please keep the the following information in mind when calling 911 about vehicles in the ditch and/or traffic accidents.

Vassar Fire Department ended 2025 with a total of 244 calls, that was 2 more than last year. Remember we're always here for you in your time of need so don't hesitate to call. Stay safe everyone.

Did you hear the news!!!
With MMR now carrying blood products within the Saginaw-Tuscola MCA, the MCA and MMR must support the local blood bank to help to supply the needed blood. With that, Tuscola County MMR & Versiti will be hosting a blood drive on Friday, September 12th at the Vassar MMR base. The scheduled hours are 0900-1230. Please see the attached flyer for more information.

At approximately 11:30pm on May 23rd Vassar Fire Department and neighboring departments were dispatched to a structure fire in the area of Juniata TWP. The fire had started in an attached garage and moved into one end of the dwelling. Because of swift actions by all personnel the majority of the contents in the home were saved. However the garage and all contents in it was a loss. One occupant of the residence did suffer some burns to his leg and was treated by MMR and taken to an area hospital. Vassar Fire would like to thank Fairgrove Fire Department, MMR, Reese Fire Department, Richville Fire Department, and Caro Fire Department on their assistance.

Busy start to the week with Sundays weather. Vassar Fire had a total of 9 calls on Sunday with one of those being an assist with MMR earlier in the day. By the time we cleared our last call it was almost 6am on Monday morning. Today Tuesday April 1st we are doing our annual ladder testing. As with a lot of our equipment we have to test them to insure everything works as it should.

The members of the Vassar Fire Department attended a refresher course for BLS CPR at the Vassar Area Ambulance Base.

MMR is offering an American Heart Association CPR/BLS (no first aid) class on March 1st, 8:00am-11:30 am at the MMR Vassar Base, 5450 W Saginaw Rd, Vassar Mi. The cost is $20.00 per person. Please text Scot at 989 245 1520 to reserve a spot.
