Texas A&M Forest Service has raised the Wildland Fire Preparedness Level to Level 2 as the potential for wildfire activity is expected to increase over the next several days, particularly in the High Plains, where high temperatures, low humidity, and dry vegetation is contributing to elevated risk.

Yesterday, our firefighters responded to 8 new wildfires that burned 24,774 acres.

We continue to monitor the situation and stand ready to respond to any requests for assistance.

Reminderđź””Statewide Emergency Alert System Test

The Texas Division of Emergency Management (TDEM) will be conducting a statewide test of emergency alert systems on Thursday, April 2, 2026, between 10:00 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

This means every cell phone in the county may receive an alert, similar to an AMBER Alert.

Please note: This message will clearly state that it is only a test.
There is no emergency.

These tests help ensure emergency communication systems are working properly and allow communities to practice receiving important safety alerts.

Residents are encouraged to be aware of the test and help spread the word so no one is alarmed when the alert is received.

Thank you for helping keep our community prepared and informed!
