4:12 PM- DPS just informed us that US 385 is now open.

ROAD CLOSURE NOTICE

Due to the Round Up Fire, US 385 is closed beginning at the intersection of US 385 and FM 1061, extending south toward Vega.

Please avoid the area and use an alternate route until the roadway is reopened. We will provide updates as they become available.

Thank you for your patience and cooperation. Please drive safely and watch for emergency personnel working in the area.

Prolonged rainfall expected today has prompted a marginal (level 1 out of 4) risk for excessive rainfall across the southern TX Panhandle. Although moderate to heavy rainfall can be expected with this activity, it will likely be scattered in nature across the region. Meaning, excessive rainfall amounts and potential impacts will likely be hit or miss.

Texas A&M Forest Service has raised the Wildland Fire Preparedness Level to Level 2 as the potential for wildfire activity is expected to increase over the next several days, particularly in the High Plains, where high temperatures, low humidity, and dry vegetation is contributing to elevated risk.

Yesterday, our firefighters responded to 8 new wildfires that burned 24,774 acres.

We continue to monitor the situation and stand ready to respond to any requests for assistance.
