Here's a little story about Genevieve, a long-time Venice resident of 27 years who just celebrated her 104th birthday this week. Genevieve was born in 1918 to a loving, strong, and hard-working family. As an infant, Genevieve and her mother survived one of the biggest pandemics in history, the Spanish Flu. Genevieve always loved her family, beaches, badminton, babies and cats, along with many other things. At about college age, she learned how to fly airplane and had a pilots license before she ever drove a car. Genevieve and her husband had 3 kids, Michael, Carol and Maria. At the time when the kids were young, they moved a few times, but always found a spot near the water to swim in. In 1957, Genevieve, her husband, and 3 kids set out for a life-changing many-months trip to Mexico. Some would call it “Crazy” that a family of five traveled on a long trip in a trailer, but to Genevieve and her husband they enjoyed every adventure near or far. Decades went by, but the love for beaches, swimming and kitties never faded. After leaving her home up north, Genevieve decided to settle down in one last home in Venice, FL. Genevieve loved swimming so much that at age of 88 she was still swimming about 1mile a day. Years went by and at the age of 103, Genevieve was still living independently at home. When life got a little bit tougher, she moved to French Blossoms Assisted Living where she currently resides. She celebrated her 104th birthday surrounded by family and friends. When you ask her, “What's the secret to long life?”, she replied, “Nothing, just live your life and enjoy every moment of it”.
