On This Day in 1989, Mötley Crüe Released Dr. Feelgood

On September 1, 1989, Mötley Crüe released their fifth studio album, Dr. Feelgood, the record that would become the biggest commercial success of their career and take the band to the top of the American album chart.

Produced by Bob Rock, the album gave Mötley Crüe an enormous, hard-hitting sound. Mick Mars delivered some of his strongest guitar work on tracks including “Dr. Feelgood,” “Kickstart My Heart,” “Same Ol’ Situation (S.O.S.)” and “Don’t Go Away Mad (Just Go Away),” while Nikki Sixx, Tommy Lee and Vince Neil sounded tighter and more focused than ever.

Dr. Feelgood became Mötley Crüe’s first and only album to reach #1 on the Billboard 200. Packed with massive riffs and some of the band’s most enduring songs, it remains the definitive studio statement from one of the biggest hard rock bands of the era.

Van Morrison (George Ivan Morrison) (August 31, 1945) is one of the most distinctive and enduring singer-songwriters to emerge from the 1960s. Born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, he first gained international recognition as the frontman of Them, delivering the raw vocal performance at the heart of Gloria before beginning a solo career that would move far beyond conventional rock and pop boundaries.

His early solo breakthrough Brown Eyed Girl was followed by Astral Weeks, a remarkable fusion of folk, jazz, blues, soul, and poetic songwriting. Albums including Moondance, His Band and the Street Choir, and Tupelo Honey further established a deeply personal musical language, while songs such as Into the Mystic and Caravan became enduring classics.

Across a career spanning more than six decades, Morrison has continually drawn from blues, R&B, jazz, folk, gospel, and Celtic traditions while remaining unmistakably himself. This Day In Music History: August 31st 1968: Decca Records released what has been called The Rolling Stones most political song, 'Street Fighting Man', written after Mick Jagger attended a March 1968 anti-war rally at London's US embassy, during which mounted police attempted to control a crowd of 25,000.

The single was kept out of the US Top 40 (reaching No.48) because many radio stations refused to play it based on what were perceived as subversive lyrics.
