Central Coast communities are highly active in pressing issues, and that was demonstrated again with a great turnout on a Friday evening for the UCSB Environmental Studies Darcy Aston Memorial lecture. Local families, UCSB students, and Darcy's friends and family learned about oil and water issues across Ventura & Santa Barbara counties. With perspectives from Asm. Gregg Hart and Environmental Defense Center's Chief Counsel Linda Krop, we had a fulfilling discussion recapping our history and looking forward to the future of maintaining our local resources.

Voters have a right to cast their ballot, free from intimidation tactics. AB 2230 (2025-26, Avila-Farias) would protect voters and children by restricting federal law enforcement presence near polling places and prevents ICE from entering nonpublic childcare areas without a judicial warrant, subpoena, or court order.

Being in community brings much needed restoration during challenging times. The is a “third space” in Downtown Oxnard for folks to gather, create and have fun! The Mystery Shop hosts a variety events such as game tournaments, live music, screenings, workshops and mutual aid resources for impacted community members. They have a great record collection too! It was a blast to revisit the Shop and recognize them as one of the 2026 Small Businesses of the Year for the 38th Assembly District.
