Thanks to everyone who was able to show up to the Fair Board meeting Tuesday to protest the possible addition of a data center to the fairgrounds! Whether or not you spoke, your very presence helped the Board commit to PUBLICLY addressing this issue from now on!

“Board President Guillermo Ceja Jr. told the crowd state law prevents directors from responding to questions and comments because the Global Stack proposal wasn’t on the agenda. At the end of the meeting, Board Director Leslie Cornejo asked for the issue to be put on the September agenda for public discussion.

She said the proposal should have been brought to the community earlier, noting previous discussions have happened in closed session.

“It’s high time,” she said of a public conversation. Directors Dan Long and Miriam Mack voiced their support for making the discussion public. Ceja said he would confer with the state’s fair and exposition division before a decision is made on the agenda.”

Next steps:
Sept. 15: The Ventura City Council will present a letter of opposition to a data center to be presented to the Fair Board. Potential speakers are asked to demand a city-wide moratorium on such development. We will update with agenda # and more information when it is posted.

Next Fair Board meeting: September date not yet confirmed, nor that the date center will finally be included in the official agenda. We will keep you updated on both issues.

URGENT!!!!!! NEED YOUR HELP TODAY!
We've learned that SB 1370 (Stern and Becker) - a terrible bill that would waive almost every state environmental law for wildfire projects up to 3000 acres - has been included in the Governor's end of session wildfire package. This is our last high priority opposition bill that's still moving this session. The following members are on the Assembly Working Group on the wildfire package and we're working on getting the full list on Senate side:

Assemblymember Bennett
Assemblymember Ransom
Assemblymember Bryan
Assemblymember Kalra
Assemblymember Calderon
Assemblymember Petrie Norris
Speaker Rivas

I've attached our floor alert opposing 1370. To the extent folks have relationships with these members or can get calls into their office urging them to oppose 1370 in the package that would be fantastic. Calls to Newsom would be helpful too. More about the issues with this bill in this op-ed . Thank you!!

Lawmakers are considering exempting wildfire mitigation projects from state environmental and health rules, including allowing herbicide use.
