We appreciate Supervisor Gorell’s office Ventura County Supervisor Jeff Gorell for hosting and inviting RMA to participate. Our Agency Director, Rob Mullane, presented an overview of RMA’s programs and services, as well as Mountain Fire rebuild and recovery updates.

We’re grateful for the opportunity to connect and look forward to staying engaged with the community!

📢 Upcoming Planning Commission Public Hearing

The Ventura County Planning Division will present proposed updates to the Non-Coastal Zoning Ordinance (NCZO) as part of Phase I of the Comprehensive Planning and Zoning Regulatory Reform Program.

The proposed amendments are intended to modernize and streamline land use permitting and zoning regulations to improve efficiency, transparency, and responsiveness.

Proposed changes include:
🏠 Providing more flexibility for detached accessory structures in residential areas
🎬 Updating Film Permit standards
🏢 Updating commercial and industrial zoning and allowable uses
📋 Streamlining certain permit and review requirements
⚖️ Updating regulations to align with local and state law

Members of the public are encouraged to attend the hearing, provide comments, or watch the meeting remotely. Spanish interpretive services will be available.

A look back at last Wednesday’s Annual County Career & Resource Expo, one of our favorite days of the year at RMA! 💼✨

🏛️ Two New Points of Interest Designated in Ventura County

On July 13, 2026, the Ventura County Cultural Heritage Board designated the Piru Citrus Association Labor Camp ("El Campo") and the Piru Quonset Hut Community Center as Points of Interest, recognizing their important contributions to Piru's history and heritage.

📍 Piru Citrus Association Labor Camp ("El Campo")
Established in 1950 during the Bracero Program and incorporating bunkhouses dating back to 1927, the camp supported the daily routines of seasonal farmworkers for more than five decades. Though demolished in 2011, a historical display room was incorporated into the Valle Naranjal Farmworker Housing development that replaced the camp.

📍 Piru Quonset Hut Community Center
Built in the 1940's, this was known as a beloved gathering place for weddings, baptisms, quinceañeras, dances, and other community celebrations. The Quonset Hut served as the heart of community life before being replaced by a new community center.

During the on-location Cultural Heritage Board meeting, longtime Piru residents shared personal memories of both sites, highlighting the lasting impact these places had on the community and the importance of preserving their stories for future generations.

Although the original structures no longer stand, these designations ensure their history and significance will continue to be recognized through Ventura County's Cultural Heritage Program, including future outreach materials, the interactive historic properties map, and site-specific webpages.

📢🌊 OCEAN WATER ADVISORY - July 17, 2026
Ocean water quality results for samples collected this week indicate ocean water quality at the following Ventura County beaches failed to meet State standards for bacteria:

👉 Channel Islands Harbor Beach Park – Kiddie Beach

⚠️Warning signs are currently posted and contact with ocean water should be avoided for a minimum of 50 yards on either side of each posted sign. Warning signs will remain posted until ocean water quality meets State standards.
Any items that may have come in contact with ocean water should be avoided. If contact occurs, wash thoroughly with soap and water.

‼️Any shellfish on or from Ventura County beaches may have also been exposed to this contamination and should not be eaten.

Ocean Water Quality Monitoring Program staff will continue with weekly bacteriological sampling of Ventura County beaches.

Bacteriological sample results for specific beaches are also available on the Environmental Health Division hotline (recorded information), (805)662-6555, and on the Ocean Water Quality Monitoring Program webpage.

🦟 Mosquito Activity Alert

The first mosquito sample of 2026 to test positive for West Nile virus (WNV) has been identified in Ventura County.

While no human cases have been reported to date, additional positive mosquito samples are expected throughout mosquito season.

Now is the perfect time to take simple steps to protect yourself and your family this summer:

💧 Eliminate standing water around your home
🪟 Repair holes in window and door screens
👕 Wear long sleeves and pants, especially at dawn and dusk
🧴 Use an EPA-approved insect repellent containing DEET, Picaridin, Oil of Lemon Eucalyptus (PMD), or IR3535

📞 Report mosquito breeding sources or mosquito activity: (805) 658-4310

🐟 Request free mosquito-eating fish for ornamental ponds, neglected pools, and other water features: (805) 662-6582

🐦 Report recently deceased wild birds: 877-WNV-BIRD (877-968-2473) or visit westnile.ca.gov

🚨 SCAM ALERT 🚨

The FBI has sent an ongoing nationwide alert to the public about phishing scams targeting individuals and businesses with active Planning & Zoning permit applications.

Scammers are impersonating City and County officials to request fraudulent permit payments. These emails may include real permit numbers, property addresses, logos, and official names to appear legitimate.

⚠️ Red flags to watch for:
• Emails that appear official but come from non-government domains (example: “.com”)
• Requests for payment via wire transfer, payment apps, or cryptocurrency
• Attached invoices requesting payment instructions by email
• Messages that create urgency or threaten delays

How to Keep Yourself Safe:
✔️ The County will NEVER request payments via wire transfer, peer-to-peer payment apps, or cryptocurrency.
✔️ Always verify the sender’s email address for misspellings or extra characters.
✔️ Contact agencies directly using official phone numbers listed on County websites to confirm fees or correspondence.
