🚨 Public Safety Notice – Mud Fork Road 🚨

The Verdunville Fire Department was made aware of a hazardous roadway condition on Mud Fork after a concerned citizen shared a Facebook post.

As you can see in the photo, a portion of the roadway has broken off along the edge, creating a serious drop-off. This presents a significant safety concern for residents who travel this area daily, as well as for anyone unfamiliar with the road who may not be aware of the damage. An incident could easily occur, especially at night or during poor weather conditions.

We have made contact with the Logan 911 Center, and State Road has been notified to respond and assess the situation as soon as possible.

⚠️ Please use extreme caution when traveling through the Mud Fork area. Slow down, stay alert, and avoid driving close to the edge of the roadway.

We appreciate the community looking out for one another and bringing concerns like this to our attention. Your awareness helps keep everyone safe.

Last night, Verdunville Fire Department responded to a late-night medical emergency involving a resident experiencing severe breathing difficulties.

Upon arrival, crews assisted EMS with patient care and lift assistance to ensure the individual was safely transferred for further treatment. Calls like this remind us that many emergencies we respond to aren’t fires — they’re medical situations where teamwork, proper training, and safe lifting techniques are critical.

Our members train regularly on patient movement and back injury prevention to ensure we can help our community while also protecting our firefighters from injury.

We’re proud of the teamwork displayed and grateful for the continued partnership with our EMS providers.

As always, if you experience difficulty breathing or any medical emergency, call 911 immediately.

A fire department’s effectiveness is shaped as much by the decisions and support of local and elected officials as by the firefighters who respond to the calls. When that support is lacking, even the best firefighters and departments are limited.

The Verdunville Volunteer Fire Department will be collecting new and unopened toys for children of all age groups as part of this year’s Responding With Santa Toy Drive.

Anyone wishing to donate may drop off any new, unopened toys at the station door, and our members will make sure they are collected.

Thank you for helping us bring joy to local kids this Christmas! 🎄🚒🎅

The Verdunville Fire Department would like to take a moment to extend our deepest appreciation to the Town of Chapmanville and the Chapmanville Fire Department for welcoming us as a vendor at this year’s Apple Butter Festival.

This event was not only an opportunity for us to serve the community, but it was also a chance for our department to come together as a team, work alongside our neighbors, and meet so many wonderful people from all over the area. Our ladies and gentlemen put in a tremendous amount of effort, and we couldn’t be more proud of the way they represented Verdunville. The support we received throughout the festival was outstanding, and it was truly an honor to be part of such a long-standing tradition that means so much to the people of Chapmanville.

We sincerely hope to be invited back again next year, as this experience not only helped us raise funds to continue serving our community, but also built new friendships and stronger partnerships between our departments and the town.

A very special thank you goes out to Mayor Joel McNeely, Sally, and Devin for their kindness, hospitality, and hard work in making this festival such a success. You all went above and beyond to make sure we felt welcome, and we are grateful for your leadership and support.

Events like these remind us just how important it is for neighboring towns and fire departments to work together, support one another, and celebrate the communities we are proud to serve.

On behalf of the Verdunville Fire Department, thank you again for allowing us to be part of your festival. We look forward to many more opportunities to work together in the future.
