As you walked the cemeteries of the area this past weekend, you may have noticed a special flag and bronze maltese cross on some graves. These are the men who have passed and served the Vermilion Fire Department. Fire Marshal Rodney Johnston was helped this year by FF's Brady Dotson, Jessica Thomas, and Caleb German.

Each year the Vermilion Fire Company gives out an educational scholarship to eligible seniors. This year, Fire Marshal Rodney Johnston presented Evan Kuhns, Suzanna Holmes, Kaylee Herchler and Mackenzie Feltis with a $300 check.

Congrats Dan…enjoy the retired life!!

Today we congratulate Detective Corporal Dan Shupe on his retirement. Det. Cpl. Shupe has served 25 years with the VPD. Det. Shupe has filled many different roles within the VPD, including road patrol, School Resource Officer and then completing his career as a Detective. Prior to his service with the VPD, Det. Shupe is also a proud veteran of the United States Air Force.

We sincerely thank Det. Cpl. Shupe for his dedicated service to the VPD and to the community of Vermilion. We wish him a happy and fulfilling retirement.

Congratulations are in order for FF's Brady Dotson and John Miles. Dotson completed the 10-day Swiftwater Technician course at the Ohio Fire Academy and Miles completed the Swiftwater Operations course at Tri-C. This gives VFD three technicians and three ops level trained personnel!
