The Vermillion Police Department is looking for your help in finding this young boy. His name is James. He is 8 years old. He is a wearing blue basketball shorts and a grey avengers t shirt. The DARE Graduation in Vermillion was on May 4th. Our guest speakers this year for the ceremony were Carly Ries with the USD Women’s Volleyball Team and Abi Brown with the USD Women’s Softball Team. Our thoughts are with the injured SFPD officer from yesterday's weapons violation in Sioux Falls. Thankfully, the officer is in stable condition.

The Vermillion Police Department sends support to the injured officer, their family, fellow officers, and everyone carrying the weight of this incident.

Thank you to every first responder who continues to serve their communities with courage and professionalism, even on the hardest days.

We are seeking the public’s help regarding a recent weapons violation that occurred in the 300 block of N. Dakota St on 4/11/2026 at approximately 5:20 pm.

If you were in the area at that time or witnessed anything suspicious, we encourage you to come forward. Even small details may be critical to the investigation.

Another successful plunge in the books! Collectively, the Vermillion Police Department and the Clay County Sheriff - Vermillion, SD raised and contributed over $8,000 for Special Olympics South Dakota. The event totals exceeded $20,000!
