⏰🚌SCHOOL STARTED TODAY!

Welcome back students, teachers, and staff to Vermillion schools! With students heading back to the classroom, the Vermillion Police Department reminds everyone to slow down and stay alert in school zones!

🔴Watch your speed and follow posted school zone speed limits.
🔴Be alert for students walking, biking, and crossing the street.
🔴Put your phone down and keep your attention on the road.
🔴Watch for flashing school zone lights in the mornings and afternoons. When the lights are flashing, SLOW DOWN!

Consider taking an alternate route during school arrival and dismissal times if you want to avoid school zones and the additional traffic.

Officers will be on patrol in and around school zones, helping make sure drivers are slowing down and keeping our students safe.
Let's start the school year safely!

🚧 Traffic Advisory: House Move Scheduled for August 11 🚧
Residents are advised that a house move is scheduled for Tuesday, August 11, 2026, beginning at approximately 9:00 a.m. The structure will travel:
📍 North on Cottage Avenue
📍 West on Cherry Street
📍 Out of town to Dawson Road, where it will be placed.
Motorists may experience temporary traffic delays or brief road closures along the route while the move is underway. Please use caution in the area, allow extra travel time, and follow any directions from personnel on site.

UPDATE - James was found and is safe. Thank you for everyone’s help in locating him.

The Vermillion Police Department is looking for your help in finding this young boy. His name is James. He is 8 years old. He is a wearing blue basketball shorts and a grey avengers t shirt. He was last seen at his residence on ********** Dr at what around 3:15pm today. If you find him, please call the police department at 605-677-7070 immediately.

Today was Lieutenant Drew Gortmaker‘s last day. He has been a huge asset to our department and the community during his 8 1/2 years of service. We wish him well in his new career!. He will be missed.

The DARE Graduation in Vermillion was on May 4th. Our guest speakers this year for the ceremony were Carly Ries with the USD Women’s Volleyball Team and Abi Brown with the USD Women’s Softball Team. Congratulations to all of our DARE graduates and our DARE essay winners! Also, thank you to our officers and deputies that teach DARE to our students!
