A little behind-the-scenes look at what the Heart of the Basin board and some pretty incredible volunteers have been up to over the past several weekends. 👻🔨

We’ve been spending our Saturdays helping get the Vernal Haunt ready for the season, and there is still a LOT to do!

If you’d like to come help, just show up to the old Lamplighter Hotel at 120 E. Main Street in Vernal on Saturdays at 9:00 AM. No special skills required, and you don’t have to commit to every weekend. Come when you can, stay as long as you’re able, and help us build something really fun for our community.

If you’d rather sign up ahead of time, you can use the link below to get more information and reminders:

And keep this on your radar: Once October hits, the Haunt itself begins! That means they’ll need even more volunteers: actors, behind-the-scenes helpers, and people to help keep everything running each night. 🎃

Whether you love building, decorating, scaring people, or just showing up wherever an extra set of hands is needed, there will be a place for you.

Come spend a Saturday morning with us. We’d love to see you there! 🧡

Heart of the Basin needs a little help from our community! ❤️

We are currently working on a grant application that would help us take an important next step: expanding Heart of the Basin from a seasonal warming center into a year-round program serving people experiencing homelessness in the Uintah Basin.

As part of the grant application, we are seeking letters of support from community members, businesses, organizations, partners, volunteers, and others who believe this resource is needed in our community.

Last season showed us just how important safe shelter is during the coldest months of the year, but homelessness does not end when winter does. Year-round operations would allow Heart of the Basin to provide more consistent support, case management, resource navigation, and connections to services that can help people work toward greater stability.

If you have volunteered with us, partnered with us, seen the need firsthand, or simply believe the Uintah Basin needs a year-round response to homelessness, we would be incredibly grateful for your support.

**Letters are due to us by the end of the day Tuesday, August 25.**

Your letter does not need to be long or formal. We will provide an example letter to help you get started, but we encourage you to write in your own words and share why you believe this expansion would benefit our community.

Please send completed letters to [email protected] by Tuesday evening.

Thank you for continuing to believe in this work and helping us build a stronger, more sustainable resource for the Uintah Basin. ❤️

We had SO much fun at the UARHOF Night Golf Tournament! ⛳️🌙

We are incredibly grateful to the Utah Association of Realtors Housing Opportunity Fund for choosing Heart of the Basin as the charity recipient for this year’s tournament. It was such a fun night, and we loved getting the chance to visit with people, share a little about what we do, and enjoy an evening with a community that continues to show up for us in so many ways.

Thank you to UARHOF for putting together such a great event, to everyone who participated, and to everyone who stopped by our table, donated, asked questions, or simply said hello.

Support like this helps Heart of the Basin continue working toward a community where no one has to face a cold night without a safe, warm place to go.

Thank you for supporting Heart of the Basin, and for making it such a fun night! ❤️

Lately, there has been a lot of conversation about homelessness in our community. It's clear that people care. Some are worried about safety, some are frustrated by what they're seeing, and others are heartbroken for the people who have nowhere else to go. The truth is, all of those feelings can exist at the same time.

Last winter, our community came together in an incredible way. Thanks to 114 volunteers, we were able to provide 439 sheltered nights for individuals experiencing homelessness. We saw firsthand what happens when someone has a safe place to sleep, a warm meal, and people who genuinely care. It didn't solve every problem, but it created a place where trust could begin and where people could take their next steps forward.

As a board, we've spent a lot of time asking ourselves, "What's next?"

From the beginning, we knew Heart of the Basin was never meant to work alone. Our vision has always been to become one piece of a stronger community response to homelessness. We're working toward creating a year-round shelter that complements the incredible work already being done by local nonprofits, service providers, healthcare professionals, faith communities, and government agencies. Our hope is to provide a safe place to stay while connecting guests with case management, life-skills education, housing resources, and the community partners who help people move toward long-term stability.

That's a big goal, and it can only happen through strong partnerships. No one organization can solve homelessness alone, but together, each of us can play an important role.

If you've ever wondered how you can help make a difference, we'd love to have you join us. Whether it's volunteering, donating, helping with fundraising, sharing your professional skills, or simply sharing our mission with others, every person has something to contribute.

We're incredibly grateful for every organization, church, business, agency, volunteer, and individual already serving our neighbors. Heart of the Basin's goal isn't to replace those efforts, it's to strengthen them by filling a need that currently exists in our community.

These are hard conversations, but they're also important ones. We believe our community is capable of finding solutions that are both compassionate and practical. That's the future we're working toward, and we hope you'll join us.

❤️ Here are a few ways you can get involved today:

🤝 Volunteer. Right now, volunteer opportunities are available through our partnership with the Vernal Haunt. Shelter volunteer opportunities will be announced as we prepare to open for the upcoming season.

🛏️ Adopt a Bed. A monthly or one-time donation helps us prepare for another season of providing warmth, safety, and hope.

⛳ Support our upcoming fundraiser. Join us for the UARHOF Night Golf Tournament on August 14, or purchase tickets for the cruise raffle generously provided through UARHOF.

❤️ Share our mission. Every conversation, every share, and every introduction helps us reach people who want to be part of the solution.

Thank you to everyone who has supported Heart of the Basin so far. We truly believe our community has the compassion, creativity, and determination to build something that makes a lasting difference. Together, we can continue building a community where everyone has the opportunity to find safety, support, and hope.

A bed is more than a place to sleep.

It is warmth on a freezing night. It is safety, dignity, and the chance for someone to rest without wondering where they will go when the temperature drops.

Through Heart of the Basin’s Adopt-a-Bed Campaign, a $25 donation helps provide one night of shelter for a neighbor experiencing homelessness. Your gift supports the everyday costs that make our warming center possible, including rent, insurance, bedding, food, laundry, volunteer coordination, and other essential operating expenses.

You can adopt one night, several nights, or become a monthly supporter. Every donation helps us prepare to open our doors again this winter and ensures that no one in our community has to face the cold alone.

Please consider adopting a bed, and help us share this campaign with others who believe everyone deserves a safe, warm place to sleep.

💛 One bed. One night. One neighbor cared for.
