Tonight, members focused on pumping and tanker operations. Training included improving our skills with water supply, apparatus operations, and teamwork to ensure we are ready when called upon.

The officers and members of the Vernon Center Fire Department extend our deepest condolences to our brothers and sisters at the Verona Fire Department following the passing of Assistant Chief Michael Hawthorne.

Chief Hawthorne dedicated countless years of service to his department and community, earning the respect of those who served alongside him through his leadership, commitment, and unwavering devotion to the fire service. His impact reached far beyond the walls of his department, touching the lives of many throughout our area.

The fire service is built on brotherhood, and when one department mourns, we all share in that loss. During this difficult time, our thoughts and prayers are with the members of the Verona Fire Department, as well as Chief Hawthorne's family, friends, and loved ones.

May you find strength in the memories, comfort in the support of your fire service family, and peace in knowing that his legacy of service will never be forgotten.

Rest easy, Chief Hawthorne. Your watch is complete. We will take it from here.

Tonight’s drill focused on tanker operations while filling a swimming pool. This type of training helps members develop and maintain many fundamental firefighting skills, including drafting from a water source, operating the pump, managing water flow, and handling hose lines. These hands-on evolutions build confidence and proficiency while reinforcing the basics that are critical during emergency operations. Great job to everyone who participated and continued sharpening their skills.
