Countryside Fire Protection District Proudly Serving Vernon Hills, Long Grove, Hawthorn Woods, Kildeer, Indian Creek and Lake County. Countryside has a call volume of over 4,600 calls per year.

The Countryside Fire Protection District is a stand-alone municipal taxing district, similar to school and library districts, that provides fire protection and emergency medical services to over 24 square miles of Lake County, Illinois. Countryside serves a population of over 35,000 in all or a portion of the villages of Vernon Hills, Long Grove, Hawthorn Woods, Indian Creek, and Kildeer as well as unincorporated sections of the county. The District has been accredited since 1998 by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International, part of the Center for Public Safety Excellence. Accreditation is an assessment process that uses benchmarks to measure the delivery of fire and emergency services to a community with the ultimate goal of providing continuous quality improvement and improved service to the community. Being accredited makes Countryside a member of an elite group of less than 150 other departments internationally and 12 others in Illinois that have achieved similar status. The District operates out of two stations and has over 70 full-time, part-time, contract, and volunteer personnel.

You may have seen us in your neighborhood this week promoting our FREE smoke alarm installation program.

CFPD will be providing and installing FREE smoke alarms for Fire District residents the week of October 19th, as a part of the statewide Smoke Alarm Blitz through Camp I Am Me by Illinois Fire Safety Alliance and Illinois State Fire Marshal's Be Alarmed! Program.

Smoke alarms provide early notification in the event of a fire and should be on every level of your home, inside sleeping areas, and less than 10 years old.

Open House Highlight: Vehicle Extrication Demonstration

During Open House, CFPD demonstrated the process of vehicle extrication, which is the process of removing a trapped person from a damaged vehicle after a crash using our Genesis extrication tools including our cutters, spreaders, and ram.

From assessing the scene to using specialized equipment, every step is focused on getting the patient out safely and as quickly as possible.

⚠️We remind everyone to give emergency crews plenty of room to work when you see an incident on the road. Slow down, move over when possible, and follow directions from emergency personnel⚠️

October 4th marks the start of Fire Prevention Week and this year's theme is "Charge Into Fire Safety™. Safe Charging Is a Superpower” which focuses on the everyday charging habits that can help reduce the risk of lithium-ion battery fires and keep homes and communities safer.

Congratulations to Battalion Chief Russ Bach for 25 years of service and to Firemedic Lucas Ryan for successfully completing his probationary period.

Chief Smith presented B/C Bach with a commemorative plaque and a nameplate to be displayed in the Honor Garden in recognition of his 25 years of service. Firemedic Ryan was presented with his new helmet shield.
