Countryside Fire Protection District

Countryside Fire Protection District Proudly Serving Vernon Hills, Long Grove, Hawthorn Woods, Kildeer, Indian Creek and Lake County. Countryside has a call volume of over 4,600 calls per year.

The Countryside Fire Protection District is a stand-alone municipal taxing district, similar to school and library districts, that provides fire protection and emergency medical services to over 24 square miles of Lake County, Illinois. Countryside serves a population of over 35,000 in all or a portion of the villages of Vernon Hills, Long Grove, Hawthorn Woods, Indian Creek, and Kildeer as well a

s unincorporated sections of the county. The District has been accredited since 1998 by the Commission on Fire Accreditation International, part of the Center for Public Safety Excellence. Accreditation is an assessment process that uses benchmarks to measure the delivery of fire and emergency services to a community with the ultimate goal of providing continuous quality improvement and improved service to the community. Being accredited makes Countryside a member of an elite group of less than 150 other departments internationally and 12 others in Illinois that have achieved similar status. The District operates out of two stations and has over 70 full-time, part-time, contract, and volunteer personnel.

Happy EMS Week!

National EMS Week brings together communities to recognize and honor the important contributions of emergency medical services (EMS) professionals who provide life-saving services.

We thank our own firefighter/paramedics at Countryside for the important work they do each and every day, as well as those we work with to improve patient outcomes. Thank you for the care you provide, the lives you impact, and the difference you make in our community every single day. Your work often happens behind the scenes, but it never goes unnoticed.

Happy EMS Week to all who proudly serve and continue to make a lasting impact!

Mundelein Fire Department and Countryside recently trained together at an acquired structure in Mundelein focusing on coordinated search and rescue operations under realistic, fire-ground conditions. In today’s fire environment, survivability often depends on speed, efficiency, and crews working seamlessly together under pressure. Thanks to the Village of Mundelein for the invite!

This week is where we raise awareness on how home fire sprinklers can save lives and reduce property loss🏠

This month, all 6th grade science classes in our Fire District are learning about sprinklers by watching demonstrations of them in action thanks to National Fire Sprinkler Association - NFSA and Northern Illinois Fire Sprinkler Advisory Board (NIFSAB).

We recognized a brave student from Hawthorn School District 73 Townline Elementary School last week for taking what she learned about fire safety and applying it during an incident.

Earlier this year, during an emergency at her home, this student followed her escape plan by safely exiting the home with a family member, going to their designated meeting place, and waiting for CFPD to arrive. She showed incredible leadership, stayed calm under pressure, and helped keep herself and her family safe.

This is a reminder of the importance of planning for emergencies before they happen. Great work to this student for putting her safety knowledge into action and serving as an example for others in our community!
