Wilbarger County Emergency Management is a coordinated effort of Wilbarger County and the City of Vernon. Under the direction of the County Judge and the Mayor of the City of Vernon, the Office of Emergency Management trains and prepares for potential emergency situations that could arise within the boundaries of its service area, and is ready to respond should such an event / events occur. The Of

fice of Emergency Management is also the headquarters for the Wilbarger County Severe Weather Response Team. The current Emergency Management Coordinator is Cody Alexander.

Seen a lot of post of people giving wrong information about which schools will be open for public shelters if needed. See post below. This is the accurate information. The auditorium is never open for storm shelter. And the court house can only be utilized during normal business hours.

Let’s give our severe weather response team a shout out. Their dedication and preparedness are vital for keeping our community safe during challenging times. Weather emergencies demand swift action and coordination, and this team of volunteers led by Chris White play a crucial role in safeguarding lives. They spend their own time and sometimes their own money to stay prepared with on going training and purchasing the most up to date equipment.
Their efforts make a real difference in our community. It would be great to see there hard work acknowledged.

All, please note the post from VISD on the public shelters. Please note that the Shive school is no longer open to public. The new elementary school on stadium drive will take the place of that public shelter. If you have used shive school or know people that have used that school for shelter. Please let them know of the change and make your preparation plans accordingly.
