Ever wonder what happens to illegal drugs after they are seized by law enforcement and are no longer needed as evidence?

One of the tools we use is the Drug Terminator, a secure and environmentally responsible system designed to safely destroy narcotics. Once a case has been adjudicated and the court authorizes destruction, the drugs are placed into the Drug Terminator, where they are heated to temperatures between 1,800 and 2,000 degrees Fahrenheit. This process renders the substances non-retrievable, non-usable, and safe for disposal.

The photos below show our Evidence Manager using the Drug Terminator during a recent destruction process. This is an important part of maintaining the integrity of our evidence procedures while ensuring illegal drugs are permanently removed from our community.

Many people see officers making arrests and seizing narcotics, but there is a great deal of work that takes place behind the scenes. From evidence collection and storage to court proceedings and final destruction, every step is carefully documented and monitored.

Today, these drugs are no longer a threat to our community.

🚔 CLICK IT OR TICKET 🚔

The Vernon Police Department will be participating in the TxDOT Click It or Ticket campaign from May 18th through May 31st. During this statewide initiative, officers will be focusing on seat belt compliance to help keep our community safe on the roadways.

Seat belts save lives, reduce injuries, and only take a second to buckle. Whether you’re headed across town or across the state, make sure everyone in your vehicle is properly restrained every trip, every time.

Our goal is simple — keeping Vernon families safe while raising awareness about the importance of seat belt use. Help us make this campaign a success by buckling up and encouraging others to do the same.

This is a State of Texas (TxDOT)-sponsored program that covers the officer’s time and does not impact regular patrol assignments or daily operations.

PSA - Earlier this evening, a Wilbarger County Sheriff’s Deputy and a Vernon Police Officer attempted to stop an individual who fled in a vehicle, leading officers on a short pursuit. The suspect eventually arrived at a residence and barricaded himself inside.

Officers attempted to negotiate with the individual, who came onto the porch multiple times yelling at law enforcement personnel before retreating back inside the residence.

The Vernon Police Department Special Response Team responded to the scene and successfully took the individual into custody without further incident. The suspect was transported to a local hospital for evaluation.

Once the subject is medically cleared, the Wilbarger County Sheriff’s Office intends to file several felony charges related to the incident.

We apologize for the delay in providing information to the public; however, both of our department’s social media officers were directly involved in the incident and response efforts.

We appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation while officers worked to safely resolve the situation.
