The City Commission may convene a public meeting and then recess into Closed Executive Session, to discuss any of the items listed on this agenda, if necessary, and if authorized under chapter 551 of the Texas Government Code. § 551.071; (2) discussing the purchase, exchange, lease, or value of real property, § 551.072; (3) discussing a prospective gift or donation, § 551.073; (4) discussing certain personnel matters, § 551.074; and (5) discussing security personnel or devices, § 551.076.

Vernon City Hall is accessible to individuals with disabilities through its main entry on the north side (1725 Wilbarger Street) of the building. An access ramp leading to the sidewalk serving City Hall is located at the northwest corner of the building. Parking space for an individual with disabilities is available in the west parking lot. Request for accommodations or interpretive services must be made 48 hours prior to this meeting. BOIL WATER NOTICE RESCINDED
September 4, 2026

On September 2, 2026, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) required the City of Vernon public water system, TX2440001, to issue a Boil Water Notice to inform customers, individuals, and employees that, due to conditions that recently occurred within the public water system, water was required to be boiled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

The public water system has taken the necessary corrective actions to restore the quality of the water distributed by the system for drinking water and human consumption purposes. The City of Vernon has also provided TCEQ with laboratory test results indicating that the water no longer requires boiling prior to use.

As of September 4, 2026, at 10:40 a.m., the Boil Water Notice has been rescinded.

This means that customers may resume normal use of the City of Vernon water supply, and boiling water is no longer required for drinking or human consumption.

Boil Water Notice for Community Public Water Systems
September 2, 2026
Due to the loss of system pressure, the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality has required the City of Vernon public water system to notify all customers to boil their water prior to consumption (e.g., washing hands/face, brushing teeth, drinking, etc). Children, seniors, and persons with weakened immune systems are particularly vulnerable to harmful bacteria, and all customers should follow these directions).

To ensure destruction of all harmful bacteria and other microbes, water for drinking, cooking, and ice making should be boiled and cooled prior to use for drinking water or human consumption purposes. The water should be brought to a vigorous rolling boil and then boiled for two minutes.

In lieu of boiling, individuals may purchase bottled water or obtain water from some other suitable source for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

When it is no longer necessary to boil the water, the public water system officials will notify customers that the water is safe for drinking water or human consumption purposes.

Once the boil water notice is no longer in effect, the public water system will issue a notice to customers that rescinds the boil water notice in a manner similar to this notice.

Please share this information with all the other people who drink this water, especially those who may not have received this notice directly (for example, people in apartments, nursing homes, schools, and businesses). You can do this by posting this notice in a public place or distributing copies by hand or mail.

The City of Vernon has lost the operation of its booster pumps. When water pressure drops below 20 psi it triggers a mandatory Boil Water Notice.

As of this moment we are in a Boil Water Notice.

We expect to have this situation corrected by the end of the day, but the Boil order notice will remain in effect until you are notified that it has been lifted.

Do not drink the water at this time.
