We’re seeking the public’s assistance in identifying the pictured individual.

This individual is suspected of stealing over $500 worth of merchandise from TJ Maxx and leaving the store without completing the most important part of shopping: PAYING. 💸

🚨 Missing Person 🚨

We are seeking the public’s assistance in locating Sarah Leahy (9/8/1990). Sarah was last seen yesterday afternoon in South Windsor. She is likely operating her vehicle, a silver Nissan Versa CT marker plate BX92854. If you or anyone you know has information pertaining to Sarah’s whereabouts please contact the Vernon Police Department at 860-872-9126.

Thursday is the first day of school for Vernon Public Schools students.

Please pay extra attention as you drive through town, especially as children walk to and from school and school bus stops.

Please remember that children can be unpredictable. Drive extra cautiously.

Keep your eyes on the road and not your phone.

Watch for and follow the directions of school crossing guards as they cross children headed to and from school.

The law requires you to stop when a school bus has activated its red lights and is picking up or dropping off students. Passing a school bus while its red lights are flashing and the stop arm extended will get you a fine in Vernon.

Let's all work together to keep our children and each other safe.

🎒 Back to School Safety Reminder! 🚸

With school starting this week, we’ll see an increase in pedestrian traffic during the morning and afternoon commutes.

Please slow down, stay alert, and watch carefully for children crossing streets and walking near roadways. A few extra seconds of attention can make a big difference in keeping our kids safe.

The Vernon Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in locating Brian Bannon (8/28/69), who was last seen by family members at his residence on August 11, 2026, at approximately 2:00 PM.

Brian was last known to be driving a 2025 Mazda CX-50 bearing Connecticut marker BH80260.

🚨 Missing person search underway 🚨

Vernon police and fire are currently out searching for Eileen Fisher. Elderly female with dementia was last seen by her husband walking and the rails-to-trails in the area of Maple Ave and Tankerhoosen. She is believed to be wearing a light gray shirt with black pants. If anyone sees Eileen please call Vernon PD. In the meantime, please remain vigilant!

🚓 Successful Missing Child Rescue

On Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at approximately 7:00 AM, Vernon Police officers were dispatched to the Sleeping Giant apartment complex for a report of a missing child.

Upon arrival, officers learned that an 8-year-old non-verbal, autistic child had left their residence at an unknown time. Recognizing the urgency of the situation, officers immediately began searching the surrounding area.

During the search, officers heard the sound of a child crying, allowing them to narrow down the location to a densely wooded area behind the apartment complex. As they made their way toward the cries, officers encountered thick vegetation, knee-deep mud, and heavy rainfall. Despite these challenging conditions, they continued their search without hesitation.

Officers successfully located the child, who was safe, and reunited them with their relieved family.

We are incredibly grateful for the quick response, determination, and teamwork demonstrated by our officers. This incident serves as an important reminder that every second counts when searching for a missing child, and we are thankful for the positive outcome. 💙
