🚨Shots Fired Arrest Leads to Firearm Recovery🚨

On June 17, 2026, at approximately 8:30 PM, Vernon Police Officers responded to the area of 243 Hartford Turnpike after receiving reports of a male riding a bicycle who had allegedly fired several rounds from a firearm.

Officers quickly located the suspect, who fled the area on his bicycle. Through the diligent efforts of responding officers, the suspect was later located inside Carvel and taken into custody.

During the arrest, officers recovered a G***k 43X handgun from the suspect’s waistband. While the suspect was being secured in a patrol vehicle he became combative and resisted officers, causing injury to an officer. He was eventually secured and transported.

Detectives and patrol officers conducted an extensive canvass of the area and located eight spent shell casings in the Green Circle area. Additional assistance was provided by New Britain Police Officer Terreri and his K9 partner, who specializes in gunshot residue and firearm-related evidence recovery. The K9 team successfully located a ninth spent shell casing. The Connecticut State Police also assisted with the recovery of evidence.

There were no injuries reported to officers and it is believed the suspect was firing into the air.

This incident highlights the outstanding teamwork and dedication of our officers and partnering agencies in quickly locating a suspect, recovering a firearm, and collecting critical evidence to support the investigation.

Arrested was Richardo Rodriguez (6/1/1993) of Southington, CT. Rodriguez was charged with the following:

- Illegal Discharge of a firearm
- Illegal possession of a Firearm
- Reckless Endangerment 1st degree
- Assault on Police
- Interfering
- Breach of Peace

Rodriguez was arraigned this morning at Rockville Superior Court.

🚨 Unusual Weapon Seizure 🚨

On 5/21/26 at approximately 6:25 PM, Officer Wallace observed a vehicle operating erratically and committing several moving violations on West Main Street. A motor vehicle stop was conducted.

Officer Wallace, a certified Drug Recognition Expert (DRE), observed multiple signs of impairment from the operator. During the investigation, drug paraphernalia and suspected narcotics were also observed inside the vehicle. Standardized Field Sobriety Tests were administered, which the operator did not perform to standard.

The operator was subsequently placed under arrest. During a search of the vehicle, officers located the pictured homemade cannon inside the trunk.

Arrested was Benton Grenier (DOB: 9/15/69) of Vernon. Grenier was charged with DUI, narcotics offenses, and multiple motor vehicle violations.

This incident serves as another reminder of the unpredictable situations officers can encounter during routine traffic enforcement and the importance of proactive policing in keeping our community safe.
