Did you know.....
1- The Vernonia Fire District (VFD) is mostly a mostly a volunteer organization?
2- VFD has only one paid person on duty 24/7 (and that is not guaranteed)?
3- On the last 5 major fires we had in Vernonia, at most we had only four volunteers respond- and two were not certified?
4- In order to preserve firefighter staffing, the fire chief will be working 1/2 time (down from 2/3 time) beginning July 1st?
5- Our nearest backup is a minimum 25 minutes away?
7- Our ambulance service is provided by Metro West Ambulance- a private company not funded by tax dollars?
People of Vernonia- WE NEED YOUR HELP! Your community relies on volunteers to help each other when help is needed most. Please consider joining our department as a volunteer. We will welcome you. We will train you. We will equip you.
You can join an organization which is full of fantastic, dedicated and resourceful folks who want to serve others. We call ourselves a family for good reason- we foster a culture of respect, professionalism and compassion towards ourselves and others.
Even if entering a burning structure is not your thing, we can find something for you- whether that be driving and pumping our rigs, EMS and much more. We will find a place for you.
Come on down to our station and ask questions. Look around. Get a feel for our culture. We'd love to talk to you.
